The country remains widely open to French tourists. To limit the effects of the new epidemic wave, the use of the health pass is extended to hotels and restaurants, while a night curfew is instituted in the most affected municipalities.

Portugal, one of the favorite European destinations for the French in summer, remains widely open to foreign visitors, vaccinated or not.

Nearly half of the 10 million inhabitants are fully vaccinated, the country has taken several measures currently in force to contain the effects of the new wave and save the tourist season.

What are the conditions for French tourists?

The country remains widely open to foreign travelers, including the French.

Portugal accepts the European health passport and essentially controls arrivals by plane, which are the subject of a special form to be completed during the flight.

If you come by car, the border is reopened with Spain, which has been asking land tourists since July 26 to have their health pass.

Children under 12 enter the Lusitanian state unconditionally.

For older visitors, the following are recognized to enter mainland Portugal or Madeira and the Azores: a full vaccination certificate (over 14 days);

or immunity evidenced by a positive test carried out more than 11 days and less than 6 months ago;

or a negative PCR test less than 72 hours or an antigenic test 48 hours before boarding.

The temperature of the passengers is monitored by thermal camera at all airports in the country.

Madeira and the Azores demand an additional preliminary step for travelers compared to mainland Portugal. The Autonomous Region of Madeira accepts travelers under several conditions detailed on its site: first complete a mandatory epidemiological survey on the Madeirasafe site, and communicate health information via this platform (vaccination certificate, negative tests, etc.). Otherwise, the traveler will be subject to a PCR test on arrival, paid for by the local authorities. Pending the results, he will be placed in isolation. If the test results are positive, strict containment will be applied.

In the Azores, filling out a prior form is mandatory, as well as a negative PCR test of less than 72 hours.

If the stay is equivalent or greater than 7 days, the traveler must, on the 6th and 12th day from the date of the first test, contact the competent health authority, in order to undergo two additional tests.

From now on, access to hotels and tourist accommodation in mainland Portugal is conditional on presentation of the EU's Covid digital certificate ("health pass") or a negative test (PCR less than 72 hours, antigenic less 48 hours ...).

Throughout the country, restaurants, cafes and bakeries close at 1 am, shops keep their usual hours.

The beaches are accessible and you need to wear a mask to get around, but not when you are on your towel.

The praia info app and site provides information on beach frequentation with a simple color code, from green (few people) to red (saturated).

Since the beginning of July, the deconfinement process has been stopped in around sixty municipalities classified as “high” (Braga, etc.) and very high (Albufeira, Lisbon, Sintra, Faro, Setúbal, etc.) risk levels.

The level of restrictions is higher there.

A curfew (11 p.m. to 5 a.m. generally) has been re-established, and the sanitary pass may be required for dining or having a drink indoors, while a gauge governs the number of people at the table outside.

To reassure tourists, Portugal is highlighting the Clean & Safe label, launched last year, which benefits more than 22,000 tourist establishments.

It guarantees
