2021-07-28T16:35:30.390Z

This was the second call for tenders launched by IDFM and RATP to green the fleet of 4,700 buses that circulate in Paris and in the inner suburbs.

Little by little, the RATP is moving towards the elimination of diesel buses.

This Wednesday morning, the company announced, with Île-de-France Mobilités, the result of its second call for tenders for the construction of electric buses.

The contract was awarded to the Bluebus / Bolloré companies for the construction of 158 vehicles and Iveco for 180 vehicles as well as to the Spanish Irizar for 113 vehicles.

They should arrive quickly.

The first deliveries are scheduled for 2022 and 2023.

Last March, another RATP contract, this time for vehicles running on biomethane, was also awarded.

The consultation, for a maximum amount of € 575 million over 4 years, resulted in the signing of three contracts.

The first two, awarded to MAN for a respective maximum amount of € 255 million and € 91 million and, the third, to Iveco for a maximum amount of € 229 million.

According to RATP, "this new stage of the Bus2025 program reflects RATP's ambition to be a player committed to sustainable development".

And a few years earlier, in 2019, HeuliezBus, Bluebus / Bolloré and Alstom / Alstom Aptis were also awarded a first call for tenders for the construction of electric buses.

Between 200 and 800 standard 12 m electric buses have been or will be ordered, for a maximum amount of € 400 million financed 100% by Île-de-France Mobilités (as a direct subsidy or via the Île-de-France Mobilités contract - RATP).

The first are already in service.

End of diesel buses at RATP in 2025

These calls for tenders were made within the framework of the Bus 2025 program. A total of 3,700 vehicles have been or will be purchased to green the RATP fleet. The objective, set with Île-de-France Mobilités, which finances vehicles, aims to eliminate diesel buses, from 2025 in dense areas on the RATP network, and in 2029 throughout the region. This energy transformation of the park will allow, according to the organizing authority of transport in Île-de-France, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than half. RATP is targeting a fleet of 2,200 biogas, 1,500 electric buses and 1,000 hybrids. For the Optile network in the outer suburbs, which needs greater autonomy, this will be 5,400 biogas and 200 electricity.

To date, of the 4,700 buses that circulate on its network, RATP operates 258 electric vehicles, 438 biomethanes, 1,115 hybrids and the rest in diesel.
