“Short construction time” is convincing: Festenbach could span a frame bridge made of three prefabricated parts

A bridge made of three prefabricated parts could in future span the Festenbach near Thalmühl. This idea is now becoming more concrete.

A bridge made of three prefabricated parts could in future span the Festenbach near Thalmühl.

This idea is now becoming more concrete.

Warngau - The Warngau municipal council has approved a detailed plan.

Now the municipality wants to obtain approval from the Rosenheim Water Management Authority and apply for Bavarian funding for the project.

The existing bridge, which leads over the Festenbach shortly before it flows into the Mangfall, failed during the last inspection (we reported).

It dates from the 1960s and shows serious damage to the concrete and steel girders.

The tonnage load was reduced immediately after the test.

Already at their meetings in January and February, the Warngau municipal councils had dealt with the necessary new building.

A renovation of the structure was neither technically nor economically sensible, explained bridge construction engineer Marcel Kober from the specialist engineering office OK in Lenggries at the time.

The office then checked various options for the new building and came up with a frame bridge.

Festenbach Bridge: List of costs below the first estimate - specialist office offers an elegant solution

After the first cost estimate of around 415,000 euros plus an estimated 870,000 euros for the new construction of the Mangfall Bridge near Thalmühl, which was also necessary, the council decided to set up a working group with four members of the committee (Peter Huber, Michael Spannring, Hans Gillhuber and Florian Rank) to let the planning of the engineers of the engineering office accompany. Green councilor Spannring, who himself runs an engineering office that deals with hydraulic engineering, has now presented the results of the working group.

“The smart thing about the design is that it's a frame bridge,” he said. Such a bridge has slim cross-sections. “It can be delivered in prefabricated parts, and that means a short construction time.” Not an insignificant factor for the costs. “We can do without a temporary makeshift bridge,” said Spannring. “That saves a lot of money.” In concrete terms, around 50,000 euros. The plan for the new bridge provides for two lanes with a width of 2.25 meters each and caps on both sides, each 0.75 meters wide.

Spannring also surprised the local councils with a list of costs that included a possible price increase.

The new building would therefore cost between 320,000 and 375,000 euros.

"An economical solution," was Spannring's judgment.

The planning is also designed in such a way that local construction companies can come into play.

However, he was skeptical about the forecast by the specialist office that the building could be completed in six weeks.

"That's sporty."

Thanks to the willingness of the sawmill to cooperate: no makeshift bridge necessary - potential savings of 50,000 euros

Nevertheless: the municipality does not need to erect a temporary bridge. Leonhard Obermüller (CSU) expressed a big thank you to the Waldschütz family, who run a sawmill behind the bridge. Their willingness to cooperate makes it possible to dispense with a temporary bridge, which saves the public sector a lot of money. "That is outstanding," praised Obermüller. Mayor Klaus Thurnhuber (FWG) agreed: “We are particularly pleased that the family is rescheduling their operating procedures so that this becomes possible.” Thurnhuber added that a necessary change to the alarm plans had already been agreed with the fire brigade.

Reinhard Bücher (Greens) wanted to know whether the tender would run through the municipal service center (KDZ) Oberland.

That has not yet been decided, said Thurnhuber.

Now it is only about the approval of the detailed planning in order to be able to initiate the further steps.

The new building is planned for the coming year, as reported by Ernst Bauer from the municipality's technical building department.
