Argentine pole vaulter Germán Chiaraviglio tested positive for COVID-19 in Tokyo and will not compete in the Olympics, he announced in a post on his official Instagram account on Thursday.

He said he tested positive on Wednesday, "and then I knew it was all over."

"It is very hard to process something like that, it will probably take me a long time," Chiaraviglio added.
"We knew this Olympic game was different and with different rules, and here I am, it's my turn."
The 34-year-old athlete said he will be isolated in a hotel for several days.

Also on Thursday, American male pole vaulter Sam Kendricks tested positive for COVID-19.
