With a special concept, Bernried's artists defy all Corona imponderables: This year their big annual summer exhibition is taking place completely "open-air" - with huge pictures on all kinds of facades.
Bernried
- There has always been a lot of art in Bernried - where the famous "Leibl Circle" around the painter Wilhelm Leibl was created in 1871 and greats such as Lovis Corinth, Max Slevogt and Ernst Weiers have worked for decades.
But there has never been so much art in Bernried as there is today.
And certainly not so shaping the townscape.
After the humor festival has had a sculpture park, a “laughing forest” and an open-air cartoon exhibition here since mid-July, the next open-air attraction is now being added: the “Bernried Art Walk”.
This year it replaces the large "Bernried Art Exhibition", which has been attracting hundreds of curious people every year since 1976 to the arched hall in the cloister courtyard, the Salettl of the Drei Rosen inn or the historic summer cellar.

Annual?
Nearly.
In 2020 Corona got in the way, and the art show could only take place digitally.
That should be different again in 2021, thought Julia Compagnon and Ingrid Klemm-Beyer, two of the many artists who live and work in Bernried today - and came up with a concept that works independently of constantly changing hygiene rules.
Paintings by 34 local artists were printed on large mesh banners and hung across the village on house, barn or silo walls.
Together with sculptures by some sculptors, they invite you to take a “Bernried Art Walk”.

Sculptures also line the path of the “Bernried Art Walk”.

Starting from the train station, the path, lined with venerable trees, leads to the old town center and the cloister courtyard.
Sculptures and other works of art invite you to linger, relax and enjoy, before you continue on Nussallee along the lake to the Buchheim Museum - where originals by the participating artists are also on display.
"This walk opens up the senses for art, cultural monuments and nature for young and old", advertise the organizers - and invite you to "experience new cultural impressions in these connections".
Opened
will be the “Bernried Art Walk” on Sunday, August 1st at 11 am at the train station.
The works - most of which are also available for purchase - will be on display until the end of September.
