Brian Parkinson
never experienced such popularity in his life as now, after establishing himself as the great champion of
Pasapalabra
(Telefe, Monday through Friday at 6.30 p.m.) and becoming the recipient of the 1,760,000-peso prize.
Since Iván de Pineda gave him his last answer ("cuirass", a word that will not be forgotten any more) in El Rosco, the final game of the program, his phone does not stop ringing, even during his video call with
Clarín
.
"It's crazy. The number of messages and the impact is something that I never imagined. I'm not used to that. I wanted to answer everything but I still have messages to read.
I have tremendous joy
,
" says
Brian, with the same good wave and calm that he always showed in the program.
Brian, in full celebration after the triumph in "Pasapalabra".
Brian, 32, lived the broadcast on Wednesday July 28 with his partner, Lucía, and their three children, Lola, Noah and Bruno, 8, 7 and 3 years old, eating a snack at their home in the San neighborhood. Cristobal.
No one knew that that day would be the day of triumph, the one that was so desired throughout 53 broadcasts.
To that must be added the 35 undefeated programs that he accumulated in the previous stage of the program in El Trece, in 2020.
"My girlfriend cried with emotion
. My oldest children were so happy. They had been supporting me a lot all this time," he says, proud of his family.
"That was also seen on the channel. Everyone was happy for my triumph. They are all good people, who held me back a lot, because sometimes there were frustrations and fatigue."
The family routine has not been easy since May 2021, when Brian began his participation in
Pasapalabra
.
His studies in systems engineering were put aside, but he had to manage to accommodate his
12-hour shifts in an oil company with the recording days of the cycle.
The key was the support of his loved ones, the goodwill of his co-workers to change their schedules and the strength of Brian, who many times went straight from work to record, or vice versa, taking advantage of the trips to sleep.
"There were days when he ended up dead," he
acknowledges.
But immediately he clarifies: "Even so, that routine that I had is going to be missed. It
was a distraction, an escape from working to pay debts over and over again. That is the story of my life.
And having that escape was very well, especially in a time like the one we are living in. "
-How did the idea of signing up for the program come about?
-It was my girlfriend's idea.
She was watching the show.
I was studying at that time.
And sometimes when she saw him she would say that I answered some difficult ones.
I thought I knew a lot and nothing to do with it.
I actually went to a casting and didn't pass it.
I got quite frustrated.
Some time later I did another one, it was better for me and I stayed.
Iván de Pineda, happy for Brian's triumph in "Pasapalabra".
-Which were the celebrities with whom you hit the most and who put more grit to the games?
-The famous person I have the most fun with is Nicolás Scarpino, a genius.
He also plays well, commits himself and you will die of laughter.
And another ... Walter Queijeiro, who also always wants to win.
But they were all good vibes, afterwards some put more batteries than others to the games.
-For the viewer, the worst are those who do not want to ...
- It could be, but if I saw that we added more than 35 seconds, it was good.
What did not occur to me at that time, no matter how much you give me a whole day, was not going to occur to me.
If it happened to me that I did very badly in the games and then you are all stressed in El Rosco due to lack of time.
So if it was more than 35 seconds, I was not worried so much and just wanted to have a good time.
-And with Ivan good vibes? You could see that he wanted you to win ...
-Yes, a phenomenon.
There is a lot of good vibes in front of and behind the camera.
We chatted, he told me what a pity such a word or he congratulated me.
He's how it goes on the air, that's very good.
When the cameras are turned off, he's the same guy.
Brian and Iván de Pineda, after the triumph of the participant in "Pasapalabra".
-You had a fabulous Rosco with a great string of responses. Did you know it was your great opportunity?
-When I got to "X" I got very nervous because I saw that I was close to completing it.
I usually spend a lot of letters in the first round because I really don't have a sure answer.
Passing it quickly is to avoid wasting time, the most important factor in the game.
In this case it happened to me that I had the answers and I was sure.
I only hesitated in two.
It was a dream Rosco, I had never done such a long run.
-Would you like to return to the program? Maybe to Pasapalabra Famous ...
-I would love to come back.
It's something I'm going to miss a lot.
If it comes out, I'm loving it.
I would love to play El Rosco again.
It is something that I became very fond of and I love it.
Your secrets to winning El Rosco
The final game of
Pasapalabra
became the object of study for many fans of the show, which has its successful versions in different countries.
Even online competitions began between different former participants, who train and study to improve their tactics to be able to complete the 25 answers in the game without errors, one for each letter of the alphabet.
Brian reveals his keys.
"The study helped me a lot. At first what I did a lot was watch previous Roscos on YouTube, pause after Iván read the definition and see if the answer came out. There I saw how it was going. And then I have a worksheet with words and the definition of the RAE.
-How is that?
-It's an Excel.
In one column the word, the other the definition and in another the initial or the letter it contains.
So I was adding words from different topics, separated by topic, because it can ask you anything.
And then another key is in time.
You have to take good care of it.
It's better to say 'pass word' if you don't have an answer than to try to think.
Brian, in one of his participations in "Pasapalabra".
Capture TV.
-Your tactics also depended a lot on the rival ...
-Yes, but recently.
The best thing is to pay attention to your Rosco and nothing else.
But at the end there were very good participants and I followed the game to know what margin I had to risk.
It happened to me that if I risked badly, I lost a game.
So I preferred to shut up.
I am grateful for having done it because otherwise I would not have gotten here.
Practice and experience allows you to be in those details.
