Bat Yam Mayor Zvika Brut today (Thursday) instructed the Education Administration to prepare for vaccinations in the city's high schools.

This is in contrast to the position of Education Minister Yifat Shasha Bitton, where the goal is to increase the number of young vaccinators, which currently stands at about 20%, similar to the national average.

Brut explained the move by saying that "various vaccines are given in schools on a routine basis, and there is no reason to deviate from this also on the issue of the corona. However we are sensitive to the different opinions and will not do anything by force."

Now, after assessing the status of the mayor, he instructed the Education Administration to prepare a contingency plan that will run on September 1st.

However, Brut issued a directive that the move be made in coordination with the municipal parents' committee, and in specific places that there would be widespread opposition, if any, the vaccinations would be carried out in a nearby compound and not inside the high school.

Bat Yam is the first city to announce that it will allow such a vaccine, after all the previous corona waves the city operated independently and without waiting for government instructions.

“Bottom line, the main consideration that guides me is the health of my residents,” Brut said.

"Maintaining life is our urban priority, and we will continue to do everything and not give up on any step that will help us maintain a low level of morbidity in our city."

The decision comes against the background of the tension of the Minister of Education vis-à-vis senior officials of the Ministry of Health.

Yesterday, Shasha Bitton responded to the attack against her, claiming that the Ministry of Health is engaged in slander instead of promoting a campaign to encourage immunization.

"You will not deter me," she said.

"It's easy to sow hysteria, it's more important to see the good of the public."

"The public should be concerned that anyone who presents a different approach to the struggle in Corona is immediately labeled as denying the plague," Shasha Bitton said.

"To my delight, many experts and ministers share my view that we should live alongside the corona. We have reached an absurd situation, all health problems in the State of Israel have disappeared and it remains only to vaccinate children during school hours in September. "Encouraging vaccines and carrying out his policy instead of engaging in a campaign of slander and slander. We all know that the school days in September are few, due to the Tishrei holidays and the holidays, salvation will not come from them."
