The epidemic situation in the Grand Est is "

worrying

", especially in the Bas-Rhin and among young people, announced Thursday the prefecture and the Regional Health Agency (ARS).

"

The situation in the Grand Est is worrying, it is even more so in the Bas-Rhin (...) the figures are skyrocketing

", with "

eight departments out of ten which have reached the (incidence) rate of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants

”, ie the alert threshold, declared Josiane Chevalier, the prefect of the Grand Est and Bas-Rhin, at a press conference.

The average incidence rate in the region is 104 per 100,000 inhabitants (against 189 at the national level), "

with departmental disparities

", from 157 in the Bas-Rhin to 29 in the Ardennes, a less populated department where interactions are less strong, said the director general of ARS Grand Est, Virginie Cayré.

In Strasbourg, "

the figures are really very, very high

", with an incidence rate of over 250, against 230 in the Eurometropolis which brings together the Alsatian capital and around thirty neighboring municipalities, according to Josiane Chevalier.

Everything will be played out in the (next) fifteen days.

Everything is done to avoid hospitalizations,

”she added, recalling that the emergency services of Strasbourg hospitals were“

again very busy

”.

The incidence rates in the region are “

around 20

” for populations from 60 years old, 176 for 10-19 year olds and around “

137, 138

” for 30-39 year olds, with “

a peak of viral circulation for 20-29 year olds

”at 352, said Virginie Cayré.

More than half of the vaccinated region

In terms of vaccination, "

we have passed the 50% mark of people

" with a complete vaccination schedule.

The resources mobilized should "

make it possible to bring this figure to 70% very quickly

", she added.

The prefect this week took a decree which makes it compulsory in the Bas-Rhin to wear a mask in places subject to health passes and prohibits the sale and consumption of alcohol on public roads in Strasbourg.

She warned that "

if the virus continues to circulate in this way

", she would "

probably be led (...) to take other measures

", such as closing bars and restaurants at midnight and banning gatherings. more than 50 undeclared people. "

We are in this fourth wave and we still have the means to get by by accentuating vaccination and respecting barrier gestures

," she insisted.
