The labor market in Bavaria seems to be recovering from the consequences of the Corona crisis.

In one city, however, the rate is still well above average.

Nuremberg - According to statistics from the Federal Employment Agency * (BA), the number of unemployed continued to decline in July 2021 - even though it is unusual in this month.

The number of unemployed in Bavaria fell by 6980 compared to the previous month to 249,820.

"The situation on the labor market continues to improve", said the Chairman of the Board of Management of the BA, Detlef Scheele.

“Employment growth continues.

And companies are increasingly looking for new staff. "

Unemployment in Bavaria: Despite Corona, fewer unemployed and more vacancies

Overall, the unemployment rate decreased compared to the previous month by 0.1 percentage points to 3.3 percent, as the regional directorate Bavaria of the BA announced on Thursday in Nuremberg *.

The level before the Corona * crisis has not yet been reached: In July 2019, the unemployment rate was still 2.7 percent.

"The catch-up effects on the labor market in the Free State are happily continuing," said the head of the regional directorate, Ralf Holtzwart, to the dpa.

Unemployment normally rises from June to July because after the end of the training year and the summer semester, many young people are still without a new job.

“This increase was less this year.” At the same time, many unemployed people have found a new job.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the number of vacancies has now returned to the high level from before the Corona crisis, explains Holtzwart.

In July, more than 34,000 new jobs were reported to the employment agencies and job centers in Bavaria - an increase of almost 63 percent compared to the same month last year.

There are currently around 126,000 vacancies in the Free State.

That is over a third more than last July.

Large regional differences: Nuremberg continues to have the highest unemployment rate

“Employment has increased for the second month in a row compared to the previous year.

At the same time, the number of short-time workers continues to decrease, ”said Holtzwart.

By July 25, companies registered short-time work * for around 7,300 people.

In June around 12,000 people were still on short-time work.

There are big differences in terms of unemployment in the administrative districts and cities of Bavaria.

The Upper Palatinate continues to have the lowest unemployment rate at 2.9 percent.

Middle Franconia has the highest rate.

This is mainly because Nuremberg has an unemployment rate of 6 percent.

But here, too, it has decreased by one percentage point compared to the previous month.

The district with the lowest unemployment rate is Eichstätt * with 1.8 percent.
