Grafing is to get a new "entrance gate" in Rosenheimer Strasse.

And because every traffic measure on the periphery has an effect on the inner city area, this “visiting card” is of particular importance.

Grafing

- The construction committee gave the green light for this road construction project on Tuesday evening and is already looking forward to its implementation.

“I see it as totally positive”, said Johannes Oswald (Greens) what all the city councilors thought.

For 40 years, the city of Grafing has been pursuing the goal of relieving the city center from flowing and stationary traffic.

As long as the Free State of course had the last word on this because state roads collided on the market square, there wasn't much to be done.

With the construction of the eastern bypass and the diversion of traffic via Schammach and Nettelkofen in the west, the situation has changed fundamentally.

An externally visible sign of the changed "sovereignty" is that Tempo 30 applies in Rosenheimerstrasse and Griesstrasse.

Grafing and traffic: Lately more control in the city center

The urban redevelopment goals not only affect the market square, but also the inner connecting roads.

This means the area of Kellerstraße and Lederergasse.

With the gradation of the state roads to local roads, Grafing was given the opportunity to take redesigning measures in the next step in order to calm the traffic, increase traffic safety for pedestrians and cyclists and, above all, improve the appearance of the streets.

The transition from Rosenheimer Straße to Griesstraße is actually dangerous on the north side because there is not even space for a pram on the narrow sidewalk.

"We will also look at improving the way to school," promised Mayor Christian Bauer (CSU).

“With gate effect”: the inner city should be more clearly recognizable

The square at the southern end of Griesstrasse is in urgent need of renovation anyway. In the draft resolution it was said: "The aim is an attractive design, also an adaptation of the excessively wide and confusing intersection situation and ultimately the creation of a structurally perceptible and attractive entrance to the city center with a gate effect". The motorists should see that they are now in the old town area, explained building authority manager Josef Niedermaier. "We want to create an attractive solution, the space is totally neglected."

Historically, the area has always been geared towards the priority of vehicle traffic, in which the interests of pedestrians were completely disregarded.

Crossing possibilities to Schloßstraße should even be prevented by cordon chains.

But not everyone sticks to it, the situation is dangerous because the drivers can only fully see the intersection at the last moment.

Area belongs to the city - to the surprise of many city councils

The area has potential - thanks to the park of the Maria Stern kindergarten and the following architectural monuments along the street.

What makes things easier and caused unbelieving inquiries in the building committee: The entire site, including the tree that has just been planted, apparently belongs to the city itself, as Niedermaier confirmed.

It is only used "elsewhere".

The urban planner Klaus Immich is to be commissioned with the redesign and planning and will present planning variants to the committee.

The first construction phase will be limited to the intersection area up to the property at Griesstraße 18.

The decision to do so was unanimous.
