Tang Yingjie, a man, was involved in riding a motorcycle on July 1 last year, displaying the "Recover Hong Kong Revolution" banner, and crashing into the police line of defense, injuring three police officers.

Tang was convicted of inciting others to split the country and terrorist activities a few days ago, and he was the first "Hong Kong National Security Law" case to be tried.

The defense finished its plea in the High Court today (29th), and the judge adjourned the case until 3 pm tomorrow afternoon and sentenced it.

Following the announcement of the verdict by three judges a few days ago, someone called the judge and threatened to plant a human bomb. Security has been significantly strengthened outside the court.

The defendant Tang Yingjie, (24 years old, waiter).

He was convicted earlier on 1 count of inciting others to split the country and 1 count of terrorist activities.

The case alleged that on July 1, 2020, when the defendant drove his motorcycle to the line of defense on Jaffe Road and Corbriand Road, he crashed into a police officer on the line of defense. As a result, the motorcycle overturned and three police officers were knocked to the ground.

The defendant was arrested on the spot, with the "Light Time" flag on his backpack.

The judge's earlier ruling stated that the display of the "Time of Light" banner in this case could instigate others to commit divisive behavior, and the defendant understood the meaning and conveyed the message to others.

The defendant did not stop at the police line and ran into a police officer. He deliberately challenged the police and used serious violence against others, seriously endangering public and social safety. He was convicted of two crimes.

Case number: HCCC280/2020
