Vice President Kamala Harris presented on Thursday a broad strategy to address the causes of immigration of citizens of three Central American countries arriving in the United States, which however did not detail the objectives and planned deadlines.
Harris cautioned that his administration's efforts will not produce immediate results.
The vice president explained in a statement that the United States does not face alone the reasons that lead Guatemalans, Hondurans and Salvadorans, such as
corruption, violence and poverty.
The governments of Mexico, Japan and South Korea, along with the United Nations, have pledged to join the initiative, he said, although he also did not offer details about this collaboration.

Harris recalled that he recently traveled to Guatemala, "where one of the biggest challenges is corruption."

The White House also released a "Collaborative Migration Management Strategy," which the president ordered in February to outline how the United States will work with other countries to address migration flows.
Like the Strategy on Causes, the one-page document is a comprehensive statement of principles, many of which have already been championed by Biden and his key contributors.
They include
extending protections and job opportunities in the countries from which people leave
the
creation of more legal ways to come to America and promoting a "safe and humane border management".

A group of 509 migrants from Central and South America surrendered Monday night in Hidalgo, Texas, hours after another group of 336 migrants was found nearby, said Brian Hastings, head of the Border Patrol sector in the valley. from the Rio Grande, the busiest corridor for illegal crossings.
The Department of Homeland Security said Monday it resumed express deportations for "certain" families who do not express fear of being returned to their country. Although he never announced the suspension, many families entering the country illegally have been released into the United States with orders to appear in immigration court or to appear before immigration authorities.
