Berchtesgaden - A 49-year-old fell while hiking in the Berchtesgadener * Alps and sustained fatal injuries.

According to the police, the man is a 49-year-old vacationer from North Rhine-Westphalia.

He set out on a mountain tour on the Kahlersberg around noon on Wednesday.

When he did not return from this, the landlord reported him missing on Thursday morning.

"Around 11:40 a.m., a lifeless person was found west of the Mauslochsteig on Kahlersberg," the police said in a statement.

Both mountain guides from the federal police and emergency services from the Berchtesgaden mountain rescue service were then dropped off in the steep, fall-prone area.

However, "due to the severity of the injuries" they could only determine the death of the 49-year-old.

His body was flown into the valley around 4 p.m.
