BRUSSELS - European commissioner for home affairs, Ylva Johansson, will visit Lithuania on 1 and 2 August to meet with government representatives.

This was announced by the Swedish policy itself, stating that "

the EU fully supports Lithuania" and that "the agencies of the European Union are present on the ground and financial assistance is on the way".

Johansson recalled having broadcast this message on Lithuanian TV, against the backdrop of tensions linked to the influx of people into the Baltic country, which comes from Iraq via Belarus.

In the TV interview, the commissioner said that a real "wave of aggression" is underway from Minsk, defining "absolutely unacceptable" the actions carried out by the regime of Alexander Lukashenko, who "is using these people to act aggressively against Lithuania ". According to Johansson, "the most important thing now is to protect the physical border, ie the external border of the European Union, ie the border with Belarus". Lithuania has "received support from Frontex and other Member States and it is very important to protect the external borders of the European Union so that illegal migrants cannot cross them", he concluded.
