The health of the mayor of José C. Paz, Mario Alberto Ishii

, had an improvement

in the last hours, although he is still a patient with high-risk coronavirus.

The PJ mayor completed his eighth day in intensive care with severe bilateral pneumonia.

Since Sunday he was in a pharmacological coma and on mechanical ventilation, and it had previously been confirmed that he contracted the Manaus strain of Covid-19.

The news about the evolution of his health, however, brought some relief in the surroundings of the communal chief this Thursday, because Ishii

could be awakened from a coma and he is breathing on his own

.

"Mayor Mario Ishii is on the

eighth day of

hospitalization

in the

Intensive Care Unit

of the Municipal Hospital" Domingo Angio "of José C Paz due to respiratory failure secondary to severe bilateral pneumonia due to COVID19" they explain in the medical report published this Thursday.

"At the moment it presents a

favorable evolution

finding itself

without mechanical respiratory assistance and without pharmacological sedation

", they report from the official channels of the Municipality.

"He is

alert, oriented in time and space

, with preserved vital parameters, afebrile, with good renal function and with clearly improving radiological and laboratory parameters," the report points out.

He adds that Ishii is already "

beginning rehabilitation

with the kinesiology team", although he warns anyway: "He continues with a

reserved prognosis

"

The historic Peronist mayor

of the Buenos Aires suburbs had been admitted "preventively" on Thursday 22, after close contact with a relative who tested positive.

The communal chief presented

respiratory difficulties

after

testing positive for coronavirus

and on Thursday he had to be transferred to an

intensive therapy room, connected to oxygen

Mario Ishii in his municipal office in José C. Paz, in October 2020.

In another medical report released on Friday, it had been reported that "the progression of respiratory distress following his hospitalization

forced him to be connected to a

high-flow oxygen cannula

."

At that time, they sought to provide oxygen to the body in a

less invasive

way

than a respirator

.

As his situation worsened, however, there was no other option but to resort to

mechanical ventilation

.

Close contact with a family member

Ishii had reported through Twitter first that he was isolated at home,

working normally and in good condition

, and later, that a PCR test came back positive for Covid and he had been admitted.

"After being preventatively isolated due to being in close contact with a person with covid, I want to tell you that

I did the swab that finally came back positive,

" the communal chief posted.

"On medical recommendation, I am at the

COVID-19 Hospital and Area Treatment Center,

" the thread continued on the social network.

As

sources close to the PJ chief

informed

Clarín

hours later

,

Ishii had been in contact with a relative

on Saturday the 17th in the morning, who, when presenting symptoms,

that same afternoon he swabbed himself and tested positive

.

As there was close contact and "due to the

risk factors and comorbidities of the mayor

, it was decided to carry out a

preventive isolation,"

the sources reported at that first moment.

On the same Saturday and the following Monday, the mayor

took rapid tests, which were negative

, but after presenting a fever on Tuesday night, on Wednesday he

underwent a PCR swab that a day later confirmed the contagion.

As Ishii is a

high-risk patient, they

decided to admit him to the

Domingo Angio Hospital

, one of the

public health centers

that opened in recent years in José C. Paz, and which, after the pandemic, became one of the places to admit patients with Covid.

Ishii with President Alberto Fernández, on July 14.

Three days later he had close contact with an infected family member.

Initially, the contagion had been reported, explaining that the hospitalization was "as a precaution" and "with the aim of closely monitoring the evolution of the disease", but

they had not given details of the respiratory difficulties

that the Mayor had presented.

In his environment they also explained that he

has applied the two doses of the

coronavirus

vaccine

, which he received in the first rounds of the campaign because he is a risk patient.

Of

62 years

, this is not the first health alert that the village headman has in this 2021. In March

must have a hernia operation

after suddenly started having

severe abdominal pain

while working in his office.

Mario Ishii received Governor Axel Kicillof on July 6, with whom he made a tour of José C. Paz.

The hospitalization, now, strongly worried those around him from the first moment, as he was a high-risk patient.

And it occurred in the days prior to the

closing of lists for the legislative elections.

As in most districts, in José C. Paz the negotiations lasted until the last minute.

And with the leader absent, they ended up closing two lists of councilors who will compete in internal.

One represents the traditional local PJ, headed by

trusted leaders of the mayor

, and another responds to La Cámpora, which is led in the district by Buenos Aires deputy José Pérez.

He is a leader, however, as close to Máximo Kirchner as to Ishii himself

.

In fact, it is the tradition of "The Japanese" to enable more than one list in his district, to distribute opportunities among the different sectors and -especially- add votes to the provincial and national sheet with several options.

The week before his infection, the mayor

had a meeting at the Casa Rosada with the president

, and he was also with Victoria Tolosa Paz

.

As chosen by Alberto Fernández, the president of the National Council for the Coordination of Social Policies heads the list of deputies of the Frente de Todos in the Province.

Ishii is one of the longest-lived mayors of the Buenos Aires suburbs.

He was elected for the first time in 1999, and governed uninterruptedly until 2011, when he chose to compete for the provincial government in an intern with

Daniel Scioli

, who was running for reelection.

Finally, the La Paz

was defeated in the primaries

, where he received a meager

6.18%

of the votes of his front,

against 93.82%

of the head of the provincial executive.

After that defeat, he was a candidate for

provincial senator

, a position he

held between 2013 and 2015,

when he finally ceased his license and

resumed the municipal executive that he holds to this day

.

The mayor became notorious nationwide in July 2020, in the middle of the coronavirus quarantine, when a video was leaked in which, speaking with a group of public employees of the health sector, he told them the phrase "I have them to cover when they are selling falopa with ambulances. "

"They misunderstood me. Falopa is the drugs. And obviously I put myself at the disposal of justice," Ishii explained at that time.
