Miqdad to an Iranian delegation: Syrian-Iranian relations have become a model in all fields

Dr. Faisal Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the Caretaker Government, met today, Waheed Jalalzadeh, Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly, and his accompanying delegation.

The two sides reviewed the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and ways to develop and strengthen them in various fields, in a way that enhances the capabilities of the two countries to face challenges.

Minister Miqdad pointed to the Syrians' pride in the important role played by friendly Iran, its leadership, government, representatives and people, in supporting Syria's steadfastness and enhancing its capabilities in the face of the terrorist war that was imposed on it, stressing that Syrian-Iranian relations have become a model in all fields.

Minister Miqdad reiterated Syria's support for Iran in the face of all attempts to undermine its achievements since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in it, expressing the Syrians' confidence in Iran's ability to overcome the economic difficulties imposed on it, as well as support its stances and policies related to the nuclear file.

Miqdad presented the recent developments related to the various efforts made by Syria with regard to restoring security and stability on all its lands, liberating the remainder of it from terrorism and occupation, and improving the living conditions of Syrian citizens in the face of the inhumane effects of unilateral coercive economic measures.

In turn, Zadeh stressed that the relations between Syria and Iran date back to years preceding the war on Syria, and that these relations have always been based on cooperation, coordination and exchange of support in various issues, pointing out that the exchange of visits and coordination between the Shura Council and the People's Assembly plays a major role in strengthening this cooperation and raising The level of relations between the two countries to a level that lives up to the aspirations of the leadership and peoples of the two countries.

Zadeh presented the developments of the situation in Iran, especially the American attempts to manipulate the negotiations that took place in Vienna regarding the Iranian nuclear file, stressing that these attempts will fail because the Iranian people will not accept any prejudice to their rights.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides affirmed that the blood of the martyrs that shed from the peoples of the two countries and their armed forces to defend the dignity, freedom and independence of Syria and Iran will remain immortal in the memory of all defenders of peoples' rights by determining their future without any external interference in their affairs.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Boutros Marjana, head of the Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee in the People’s Assembly and a number of members of the committee, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ambassador Radwan Lutfi, Director of the Asia Department, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq, Director of the Private Office Department, Warif Al-Halabi, Director of the Information Department, and Dr. Yamen Yassouf from the Deputy Minister’s Office Qusai Mustafa from the Asia Department and Yazan Al-Hakim from the minister’s office, and from the Iranian side a number of members of the Presidency of the Shura Council, the deputy head of the Iranian-Syrian Parliamentary Friendship Association and deputies from the Shura Council, and a number of members of the Iranian embassy in Damascus attended.

In a press statement after his meeting with Miqdad, Zadeh described the meetings with Syrian officials today as constructive and looking forward to upgrading bilateral relations, expanding economic and trade cooperation, contributing to reconstruction and activating agreements between the two countries that share many commonalities.

The head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee stressed the depth of the Syrian-Iranian historical relations and the need to enhance means of cooperation between the two countries in the interest of the two peoples, pointing out that "there is no one who can affect the Syrian-Iranian relations."
