What could the center of Zornedingen look like in the future?

Architecture students at the Technical University of Munich have dealt with this question.

This resulted in six designs.

Zorneding

- "That was a very nice task," said TU lecturer Florian Nagle when presenting the designs to local councils and other interested Zorneding people Vereine, built as a school in 1867, is in a desolate state, which is why the local council had previously discussed controversially whether it was worth keeping or whether it should be demolished.

The students, on the other hand, agreed: the house was preserved and renovated in all of the drafts.

"You have a gem there, you mustn't tear it down, you don't get that kind of thing that often!" Emphasized Nagler.

Suggestion: House of clubs for flexible use

His students had designed the house with an elevator, gutted it and planned it for more flexible use. In one design, the house was even extended to the west in order to create more space for larger gatherings.

The future architects had previously looked at the local history, had a look around Zorneding and spoke to passers-by.

The desire of the population for meeting places crystallized, which is why a café, a farm shop, co-working zones, a repair café or a jointly used workshop were included in most of the designs.

Fountain and covered pavilion

Some designs had also integrated a fountain or a covered pavilion, and all students had implemented the subject of accessibility in a well-thought-out way.

The old grinding shop was retained in the models, as was the club house, and they were supplemented by various new buildings, often with the ulterior motive of shielding the resulting new space from south to Münchner Strasse: “The traffic there is perceived as annoying. "

In some drafts, Anton-Grandauer-Strasse between the church and Münchner Strasse was closed or at least traffic-calmed in order to improve the quality of stay in the new square.

There should still be enough parking spaces.

Mayor Mayr to the students: "I bow to you".

“I bow to you!” Said the visibly impressed Mayor Piet Mayr (CSU). “You gave us a firework of ideas.” He particularly liked the fact that the students “really wanted to do something for people and create a meeting place”. It is true that none of the drafts can be implemented immediately and one-to-one, but that wasn't the point. Rather, the municipal councils hoped for new ideas and suggestions through an objective view from the outside. In the end, the councils were allowed to award points for the individual models and the result was very close, so the two winning models were only one point apart. The three models with the most points received financial recognition of 1000, 500 and 250 euros, and all six groups received an expense allowance of 1000 euros each.
