The introductory book “Geopolitics in a Hundred Phrases” written by the French Pascal Guchon and Jean-Marc Hussot and translated by Dr. Adel Daoud sheds light on the effects of geographical location and its social, cultural and military repercussions in a simplified manner that summarizes the concepts of geopolitics through a hundred titles.

The book, issued by the Syrian General Book Organization, focuses on exploring the future of the world and is divided into five chapters. The first is entitled “Concepts of Power” and deals with German, Anglo-Saxon and French schools in political geography. He also talked about the terms of the heart of the earth, “the edge of the earth,” power, domination, enemy and dangers. Center, polarity, strategic balance, domino theory, axis, political realism and negotiation.

The second chapter, “Masters of the World,” reviewed the terms of the regions, the network, the nation-state, empire, region, balkanization, major, super or excessive powers, celestial trends, maritime sovereignty, the military-industrial complex, multinational corporations, religion, ideology, diaspora, nomadic life, the mafia, the non-governmental organization and public opinion.

“Violent or insidious” is the title of the third chapter, which talked about many topics, including hard power, soft power, total war, ethnic cleansing, just and peaceful war, disarmament, atomic weapons, guerrilla warfare, disassociation, the right to intervene, collective security, economic warfare, transfer of investments abroad, the media, and revolution in military affairs. .

Among the titles dealt with in the fourth chapter are “Why We Fight” and dealt with the concepts of confinement, energy, raw materials, water, rivers, ocean, coast, island, sea channel, road, desert, outcrop, mountain pass, protection slides, wall, gray area, outer space, technology, brain drain, migration, cyberspace, culture and cultural exclusivity.

The fifth chapter, “Between Union and Fragmentation,” talked about the titles of the totalitarian village, supranational union, sovereignty, the end of history, international law, the law of war, the law of the sea, and the clash of civilizations.

It is noteworthy that Pascal Guchon is a specialist in history, a professor of economic and commercial sciences, and in 1992 founded the “Major” series in the publications of university books in France dealing with geography, sociology and the environment, and in 2014 he issued the Confli magazine specialized in political geography, while Jean Huisau is a teacher and researcher at the School of Management in Grenoble. French and is currently the Director of the Center for Research in Geopolitics and Management.

Dr. Adel Daoud was born in the city of Aleppo in 1980 and holds a doctorate in translation science from France and a faculty member in the French language department at Al-Baath University. Among his translated works are multilingual communication, commercial and institutional translation, about translation science and communication methods, and songs that have a poetry collection and five weeks in a balloon a novel of literature Scientific.
