Many countries in Asia have so far relied on the corona vaccine from the Chinese manufacturer Sinovac.

But now the vaccine has fallen into disrepute - with consequences.

Beijing / Munich - In Germany there are complaints about the slow progress of the vaccination campaign.

This is another reason why the debate on how to get unvaccinated people to be injected against the coronavirus is gaining momentum.

The intention is clear: the more people are vaccinated, the more difficult it is for SARS-CoV-2 to spread.

More than half of the total population is now fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

A quota that many Asian countries can only dream of - and that are facing a massive problem.

Indonesia, for example, is currently experiencing a terrible wave with 2,000 corona deaths every day, and Thailand is registering highs in new infections.

Sinovac: Studies do not certify that the Chinese vaccine has long-lasting effects

Both countries have one thing in common: They mainly vaccinate the corona vaccine from the Chinese manufacturer Sinovac.

Indonesia is one of the main buyers of the vaccine.

But now there are great reservations about Sinovac.

The reason for this are studies that certify Sinovac's limited effectiveness.

First, a study by Thammasat University in Thailand found that the amount of antibodies halved every 40 days.

Now Sinovac had to admit that the number of antibodies is rapidly decreasing.

In just under a third of the vaccinated people examined, it was above the lower limit defined by researchers.

Asian countries change their vaccination strategy because of doubts about Sinovac vaccine

Countries that have so far relied on the Sinovac vaccine are therefore looking for alternatives.

In Thailand nobody should receive two doses of Sinovac anymore, the second vaccination should be done with Astrazeneca, reports the

Handelsblatt

.

In Indonesia they want to give health workers a third vaccination with Moderna.

Malaysia just wants to use up the stocks and rely on the vaccine from Biontech-Pfizer in the future.

In Singapore, relaxations do not apply to people vaccinated with the Sinovac substance.

And even China is considering

a booster vaccination with Biontech-Pfizer

, according to the Chinese news portal

Caixin

.

In Germany, the Curevac vaccine fell well short of expectations.
