Syrian-Iranian talks to enhance joint economic cooperation to serve the interests of both countries

The Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade in the Caretaker Government, Dr. Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, discussed with the Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly Vahid Jalalzadeh and his accompanying delegation, ways to strengthen and develop economic and trade relations and overcome the difficulties that prevent the progress of cooperation in the field of investment and trade, in a hall Economic Committee in the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

Minister Al-Khalil stressed the Syrian government's keenness to develop joint cooperation to serve the interests of the two countries and the importance of economic communication and access to the best legislation that develops and enhances economic cooperation, noting the importance of bilateral meetings, which constitute an important opportunity to know the common economic reality and agreed areas of cooperation.

Minister Al-Khalil referred to the documents, agreements and protocols signed between the two parties that are implemented on the ground, which led to the development of trade and investment cooperation, an increase in the movement of imports and the development of the volume of trade exchange, pointing out that the reality requires developing the actual implementation of these agreements, overcoming all obstacles and addressing problems to rise to a high level of Economic cooperation.

Minister Al-Khalil explained that the issue of financial transfers between the two countries for projects constitutes a real obstacle to some projects as a result of the two countries being subjected to unjust sanctions, in addition to the problem of transportation, as there is no regular permanent line between the Iranian and Syrian ports.

For his part, Zadeh stressed the importance of elevating the joint economic relations to the level of political relations and enhancing trade and investment exchange, stressing the importance of joint discussions in this regard to overcome obstacles that prevent progress and fruitful cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to follow up discussions and meetings to implement the signed agreements and overcome difficulties to improve the level of bilateral economic relations.

After the meeting, Zadeh stressed, in a statement to reporters, the necessity of bilateral cooperation to develop economic and trade relations, starting with knowing all the problems that prevent the development of constructive cooperation between the two countries, which contributes to raising the level of trade and investment exchange and benefits both sides.

For his part, Minister Al-Khalil indicated that the meeting comes within the framework of the great care and joint affirmation by the two countries to develop and strengthen economic cooperation and open horizons for Iranian investment in Syria.

The meeting was attended by a number of members of the Iranian Shura Council, the Deputy Minister of Economy Rania Ahmed, the deputy head of the Syrian-Iranian Parliamentary Friendship Committee, and a number of members of the People's Assembly.
