The Pumas that achieved the first and so far only medal for Argentina in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will have to wait to return to the country and celebrate with their families and friends the great achievement achieved.

Is that the connection they had to make in Amsterdam after leaving the Japanese capital to reach Buenos Aires was canceled due to the restrictions on entering the country to prevent the spread of the Delta variant.

Although the KLM flight left Narita for the Netherlands, the team led by Santiago Gómez Cora did not get on the plane when they learned that they would be stranded in Amsterdam.

Therefore, they decided to stay in the Olympic Village.

"Everything is solved. They will leave the day after tomorrow (Saturday) together with the football team," they clarified to Clarín from the Argentine Olympic Committee.

And they added: "The leaders are seeing how they can solve this issue of the flights that are falling one after another and this is a problem that comes from Argentina.

The Olympic protocol establishes that athletes must leave the Olympic Village within 48 hours of their participation.

In this case, Los Pumas achieved an exception to avoid having to be stranded in another part of the world while waiting for a flight authorized to enter the country to appear.
