An expansion of the fire station has been discussed in Seeshaupt for six years and it will probably stay that way for a few more years.
“When our new turntable ladder vehicle arrives at the end of 2022, we won't have space for it,” says commander Stefan Hieber.

There have been vague hopes that something will finally move since the most recent council meeting: On the recommendation of the fire brigade working group, the three-year-old reconstruction plan in the town center has now been canceled.
After the summer break, the council could “become active in urban development planning” in September, says Mayor Fritz Egold on request.
In concrete terms, this means that a suitable plot of land must be designated for a new tool shed this year, if possible, and then an architect must be found.
Because the fire brigade domicile on Penzberger Straße has been bursting at the seams for some time, so parts of the equipment have to be outsourced.
The command vehicle is now in an uninsulated wooden hut, with the result that it often has defects because it is too hot there in summer and too cold in winter.

And those aren't the only problems.
Due to the lack of space, the youth group is quartered in a container next to the tool shed;
if the active people have to change at lightning speed after the alarm, they cannot keep the necessary corona protective distances at their lockers.
"We will soon not know what to do next," Hieber had written months ago in a letter to the community.

This has repeatedly delayed the necessary multi-million dollar project for years. At the end of 2019, the agenda of the municipal council already included the item “Status quo and further action” with regard to an extension. It has been off the table since the most recent meeting because there is no space on Penzberger Strasse to meet the requirements of a contemporary tool shed. "Because we need a plot of around 3500 square meters," says Hieber. Even now, the emergency vehicles have to be maneuvered with centimeter precision and no one knows where the new turntable ladder will be housed in the future - nor where the municipality should get the millions for a new building.
That many firefighters in Seeshaupt are angry is more than clear in the letter from the commanders to the community.
Among other things, it says: "We now have the impression that individual councils do not know that all of our commitment is voluntary and is the responsibility of the community."
The work of the defense is made "extremely difficult by the quarrels in the local council, and we are no longer willing to be made into the ping-pong ball for some council members".
Even if a new building were finally to be seriously tackled, it could take until 2025 - "actually much too late," says Hieber.
