Peter Plachik reacts after his removal from Tokyo (video: Yaniv Tuchman, video editing: Nir Chen)

Israel's baseball team opened its way today (Thursday) in the Olympic tournament in Tokyo with a painful 6: 5 loss to South Korea.

Israel, which was one of the few individual teams to qualify for the tournament for the first time at the Olympics, has twice dropped a double advantage in the fickle game in which it eventually lost in extra time, and will play tomorrow at 13:00 against the United States, and on Saturday at 13:00 the Americans and Koreans will meet.

The team consists almost entirely of Jewish American players, and has become the first ball team to represent Israel at the Olympics since the 1976 soccer team.

In recent days, it has made headlines precisely because of the bed-breaking incident in the Olympic Village, and the team hopes that success on the field will forget the criticism of the nonsensical act for which they were required to apologize.

The method of playing in the tournament is quite complicated, with after the first home stage all three teams in each house will advance to another stage, and after that there will be two more rounds of consolation house until four teams advance to the semifinals.

Despite the inexperience of many of the players, the ability in previous games and the fact that the number of teams in the tournament is very limited caused the team leaders to declare time and time again that their ambition is an Olympic medal.

the progress of the game

The first inning The

Koreans' opening feature, Ta In Wen, shone with three strikeouts on Israel's first three batsmen.

Then came Israeli pitcher John Muscot, who allowed a single for Ha Min Park, and then was injured already after his ninth shot, and was replaced.

His replacement Jake Fishman started badly with a wild shot, but continued well with two disqualifications and the inning ended

0-0

.

Second inning

DH Nir Kirls recorded Israel's first hit with a double on the left side, but the Korean's fifth strikeout saved him from that as well.

On the other side the Koreans threatened again with two consecutive singles, but a disqualification from Haysong Kim left the two runners on the bases, and this inning also ended in

0: 0

Third inning

Mitch Glaser opened well with a single, Scotty Borchem advanced him to second base with the close-range hit, then Ian Kinsler, the star of the Israeli national team, shelled a great home run that cleared the bases and raised the Blues to 0-2.

The Koreans tried to react quickly with their opening single, but then came an Israeli double play, and a Fleischer strikeout closed the inning with a score of

0: 2

.

Fourth inning

Blake Gailen again gave Israel a single right at the start of the round, but the Koreans responded by replacing the feature, with fresh substitute Wenjun Choi immediately recording three consecutive strikeouts that left the result in her eyes.

South Korea looked at a loss after two quick disqualifications, but then suddenly a single from Kang followed by Ji Wan's Home Run or tied the score at 2-2.

After two more Koreans got on the bases, Fleischer was replaced by another substitute - Alex Katz, who came up excellent and achieved the disqualification that ended the inning with

Inining Fifth

Israel again failed to put together a series of punches, and Glaser, Borchem and Kinsler sculpted one after the other in front of the excellent Korean feature.

Koreans' side we got two quick outs, but then the two go well Katz sent out and is replaced by Zach Weiss, who got the third disqualification to finish Haininig at

2: 2

.

Inning Friday

Danny Valencia became the first Israeli to hit the Korean pitcher with a single to the center of the field, and after Blake Gailen sent Paul Bull caught in the air, catcher Ryan LeBranaway came up with a two-run home run that set up a 2-4 run for Israel.

South Korea came close to narrowing the score, with Ji Wan or getting a walk, stealing the second base and advancing to third after a Uji Yang ground disqualification, but a Ha Min Park strikeout left the score at

Iningig VII

Israel again did not get a single hit throughout the inning, but climbed to the first base thanks to a walk by Glaser, who tried to steal the second base and was caught.

The Koreans surprisingly woke up with two consecutive home runs by Jung Ho Li and Younsoo Kim, who one by one overcame Zack Weiss and sent the ball to the stands en route to an important 4-4.

But Weiss remained on the mound, and only after allowing another single and a double that put another runner home and made it

4: 5 for the

Koreans was he replaced.

Inning Shmini

Israel failed to produce anything offensively, and the three batsmen were disqualified one after the other.

The Koreans responded with a short half-inning of their own, and everything was ready for the final round in a

The ninth inning on

the Korean bench was already preparing for the celebrations after Gailen's strikeout, but Barnaway once again came up with his second home run at just the right moment and equalized for 5: 5.

South Korea could have won the game at the bottom of the inning but an attempted base theft was unsuccessful for them as well, and both teams went into extra innings with

5: 5

at the end.

Tenth inning

Under a new law designed to prevent game prolongation, Israel started the inning with a runner on first base, but failed to bring it home with three consecutive strikeouts.

The Koreans took advantage of the acceleration law and used Bant to advance a player to third base, then enjoyed two errors by Israeli pitcher Jeremy Bleich, who hit a Korean player and filled the bases, then threw a ball that hit another batsman, giving an expensive run to South Korea. Which celebrated a dramatic

5: 6

victory
