After the storm is before the storm: barely 24 hours after the super cell had caused immense damage in parts of the district, the next thunderstorm raged over the region.

And the Eglfing community was hit again.

District

- "That's really stupid," said Eglfings Mayor Michael Fortmaier yesterday.

Lightning struck the community's telephone system on Monday evening, so the mayor can only be reached via mobile phone.

“But I've already commissioned the repair,” he says.

The telephones in the town hall on the main street should work again as soon as possible.

But the thunderstorm on Monday evening didn't cause anything worse.

“It wasn't as dramatic as the day before,” says Fortmaier.

On Sunday, a super cell went through the district and wreaked havoc in the community.

A person died.

On Monday evening, the cellar had to be pumped out again, but this time the water was "only" a few centimeters high.

"Fortunately it was not so intense," said fire brigade commander Thomas Tröppner yesterday.

The Eglfing fire brigade was still busy cleaning up the day before, when it started to rain again, according to Tröppner.

"We had been waiting for another storm to come up, so we were on the road at full strength."

Fire brigade operations again until midnight

The operations lasted until midnight and in addition to pumping out cellars, the access to the Convotherm company in Untereglfing also had to be secured with sandbags.

The report from a concerned citizen that lightning had struck the church was checked by the fire department and turned out to be an error.

All entrances to and from Eglfing are now open again, and the route in the direction of Heimgarten has also been cleared and can be used again.

“We have restored Eglfing so that it fits,” says the fire brigade commander.

Mayor Fortmaier adds: “Our place is taking shape again.” On Tuesday morning, Fortmaier also met with some farmers and fellow citizens who are cleaning up the roadsides of Eglfing with their equipment.

The power supply to the place was secured again on Monday afternoon.

In Rottenbuch, too, the thunderstorm on Monday evening did not cause as much damage by far as the super cell did on Sunday.

According to the commander, Andreas Kotz, the fire brigade only had to be deployed three times; the day before, there had been 17 missions.

Cellars were full again on Monday, including those in Regens-Wagner's rooms.

In addition, a company underground car park had to be pumped out, as the street drainage system could not absorb the large amount of water.

Mayor Markus Bader personally got an idea of the damage in his community on Tuesday morning.

Some Rottenbuchers were badly affected by the storm.

"But we are really relieved that there was no personal injury," affirmed Bader.

Liters of rain in just a quarter of an hour

He was already thinking about improvement measures, but was aware that there could be no absolute protection for such heavy rain events.

“Because that on Sunday was just too much,” he says.

The super cell moved across the town in just 15 minutes, flooding many cellars and causing minor and major road damage.

According to the mayor, between 35 and 40 liters of rain fell per square meter during this time.

“Such masses of water don't just flow off,” says Bader.

"The problem with this is also the large amount of leaves and branches that are swept onto the streets by the strong wind and so keep clogging the gullies."

When the weather is nice, you can usually not even imagine the damage such an event can cause.

"That is why everyone who builds or renovates should think about these weather phenomena," says Bader emphatically.

The fire brigade commander of the Prem community, Michael Christa, could breathe a sigh of relief on Monday evening.

The fire brigade did not record a single operation - even though it was hailing heavily.

According to Christa, the hailstones were up to four centimeters in diameter.

“That went well again,” says the fire brigade commander, relieved.

The Prem fire brigade was still busy yesterday evening with the repair of the damage from the previous day.

Ammer Gorge is still life-threatening for boats

The Ammer Gorge in the area of the Echelsbacher Bridge can still not be navigated by boat.

Currently, due to the difficult terrain in the Ammerschlucht at the level of the Echelsbacher Bridge, no trees can be recovered from the Ammer, wrote the district office on Tuesday.

When this work could be carried out cannot be foreseen at the moment, as the discharge conditions in the Ammer are currently too high.

The Weilheim-Schongau district office strongly advises against driving on the Ammer on the route from Kammerl to Rottenbucher Ammerbrücke, as this can lead to life-threatening situations for boaters.

The necessary care and caution is also required for any other recreational use of the wild river.
