The Syrian Expatriate Researchers Conference 2021 continued its scientific sessions on its third day, focusing on energy and environmental technology, with the presentation of 9 new scientific posters in the accompanying poster exhibition.

The lectures held at the Al-Assad National Library in Damascus included a number of theses and research, including “Technology for Rehabilitation of Destructive Ecosystems and Threatened Species in the Syrian Coast” by Dr. and researcher Amir Ibrahim, who explained that there are coastal areas in Syria threatened by vandalism and flooding as a result of the environmental situation, where the construction of buildings and facilities must be prevented. And designing the bases of buildings and barriers with the appropriate height and placement to ward off the danger of sea waves, indicating that the concerned authorities have started these measures on the Syrian coast.

The researcher Ibrahim also touched on the need to follow international standards in the disposal of sewage water to the sea through the establishment of treatment plants, proposing the completion of areas of special protection with the presence of a sand belt such as Al-Basit Beach, Umm Al-Tawir Beach, and reserves such as “Samra and South Amrit”.

In his research on “Using Nano Metal Oxides in the Preparation of Selective Filters,” the researcher, Dr. Jamal Abdullah, demonstrated the importance of this topic as a result of the global interest in protecting the environment and the need to monitor radioactive pollution in environmental media and design methods to treat pollution, referring to the mechanisms of developing cellulosic filters and preparing filters that are an alternative to commercial filters. In the treatment of radioactively polluted water and methods of treating water associated with oil.

In her research, Eng. Ola Diop spoke about the “technical feasibility of producing safe food packaging materials based on starch and pyrene oil,” where she reviewed the importance of the residues resulting from olive fruits in contemporary mills, “pyrene oil” and its investment in the manufacture of environmentally friendly plastic materials, especially since these residues are considered waste. Agricultural accumulated in contemporary and nature significantly.

Dr. Jamal Qanbariya, a member of the Board of Directors of the Industrial City in Adra, said in a statement to SANA:

“It is necessary to keep pace with developments in the industrial sector by viewing and following up the scientific research of the Syrians in the expatriate and benefiting from possible solutions to the problems in our country, especially the issue of energy and the environment, which is currently one of the most complex issues we face.

In a similar statement, Dr. Muhammad Firas Hanawi, Vice President of Damascus University for Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, pointed out the importance of the studies that were presented on alternative energies, especially bioenergy or bio-reactors, as there is a bio-reactor at Adra station waiting to be fully operational, indicating that the conference contributes to opening a nucleus A joint venture between Damascus University and Syrian expatriate research centers and researchers in order to access advanced research in these fields.

For his part, Dr. Ghaith Raqouzak, Director of Scientific Research at Damascus University, indicated that the research presented at the conference needs a technical study and its economic feasibility, pointing to the possibility of the private sector’s contribution to supporting these projects, such as making use of vital digesters or plant and agricultural waste and investing them.

It is worth mentioning that the Syrian Expatriate Researchers Conference 2021, which lasted for three days, was organized by the Higher Authority for Scientific Research under the title “Towards a Knowledge Economy” to focus on the role of Syrian researchers in the homeland and the expatriate by presenting several researches for them targeting topics in biotechnology, nanotechnology, information and smart systems.
