AFP quoted the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan as saying in a statement that the entrance to the compound came under fire from rocket launchers and artillery, adding that no UN staff was injured, but an Afghan policeman was killed and others were wounded.
She pointed out that the area where the offices were attacked witnessed clashes between Taliban militants and Afghan government forces today.
The statement quoted Deborah Lyons, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Afghanistan, the head of the mission in the country, as saying that "this attack on the United Nations is regrettable, and we condemn it in the strongest terms," noting the need to identify the perpetrators of this attack and hold them accountable.
