Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen: "The rubbish comes out to us at the ear wash"

Corona also has an impact on the amount of waste.

Reiner Späth, head of the district's own waste management company (AWU), took stock in the district assembly on Monday.

The deposit of building rubble will likely become a problem in the future.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

- AWU boss Späth recorded a large increase in the amount of inert waste. These are substances that, in principle, can no longer be treated, but have to be deposited. This includes, for example, asbestos or building rubble. "The rubble issue is increasing because the capacities on the market are simply scarce," said Späth. However, he sees the task of finding new storage options “in the construction industry and not in municipal waste management”. He would “reluctantly go looking for a landfill site again,” Späth said. There is still an unused section in Greiling. "But that's too good for building rubble."

Barbara Schwendner (Greens) wanted to know where this has been disposed of so far.

"As a rule, this is used in road construction or is used to backfill gravel and construction pits," said District Administrator Josef Niedermaier.

However, only unpolluted or slightly contaminated material may be brought in.

Since the regulations were recently tightened drastically, "a lot of building rubble is now out of the question for backfilling," said Niedermaier.

There is no area where disposal can be permitted

In fact, building rubble or even normal excavation should often no longer even be "temporarily stored in an uncontrolled manner" next to one's own property if the load on the material is above the limit values. If you do it anyway, "then it's a criminal offense because an illegal landfill is being opened," said Niedermaier. And these offenses would be punished. Creating official areas where the material can be sorted and processed is also hardly possible. "The land-use planning states that this is only possible in industrial areas," said the district administrator. “That would only work on a very small scale in Geretsried. Otherwise we have no area where we can allow disposal. "

All this does not mean anything good for the development of building prices.

Not least, the communities suffer from this.

"In some cases, the disposal of the excavation costs more than, for example, the actual sewer construction," said the district administrator.

More and more garbage in the district

In general, there is more and more garbage in the district.

“The rubbish comes out to us at the ear wash,” said Späth.

For example, the amount of classic bulky waste increased by 29 percent last year.

During the lockdown, people were at home "and obviously didn't know what to do with their free time," said Späth.

So it was cleared out.

He actually hoped that the whole thing would return to normal this year.

"But apparently people still have enough to throw away."

Even with green waste, the amount should not actually increase any more. “Composting is bursting at the seams,” said Späth. Residual waste, organic waste, old glass - the quantities have gone up everywhere. Only with recovered paper does the curve point downwards - at least when it comes to weight. “The volume is increasing, however,” said Späth. This is due to the fact that less newsprint is disposed of, but significantly more packaging ends up in the trash.

The AWU is not actually responsible for the light packaging that has been in the yellow bin since 2018. But Späth had brought an overview with him for this too. Since the district citizens no longer have to laboriously bring blister packs to the recycling islands, but can conveniently throw them into the yellow bin, there has been an increase of almost 150 percent. "But that's good because the lightweight packaging is no longer thrown into the residual waste bin, but recycled - even if it is often only thermal," said Niedermaier.

Last year Späth complained about the bad prices for waste paper and scrap metal, now there was no longer any reason to complain.

"Today I can definitely announce the opposite." In fact, the overall revenue situation is so good that, contrary to what was feared, a fee increase should not be an issue this year.
