Stiglmaier said: "The idea of greening the bus shelters in the city of Freising and then scientifically accompanying the measure actually appears to be innovative." But this is also a challenge for the Freisinger Stadtwerke Parkhaus und Verkehrs-GmbH, added managing director Andreas Voigt, and “on this scale only possible through funding. We will set up up to 30 green waiting halls from 2022, a benefit especially for the passengers. ”At the same time, a total area of 250 square meters will be greened.That also helps with heavy rain events.

Hans Huss, the manager of the LAG Mittlere Isarregion, provided significant support for the project application.
He explained that there was “no comparable project in Europe”.
Although the roofs of bus stops have already been planted with greenery in some cases, these are usually used solely for filtering fine dust or for retaining water.
In this project, however, it should be taken into account that many insect species only fly a few hundred meters.
So you not only need suitable biotopes with a variety of plant species, but also at regular intervals.
This is where the bus stops come into play.
They are about 300 meters apart and can therefore ideally serve as biotope stepping stones.
However, they must also be suitable for insects.
unique selling point
That is why the project is scientifically accompanied by Hanno Schaefer, who holds the professorship for Biodiversity of Plants at the Technical University of Munich.
The unique selling point of the Freising project is also the specially selected species-rich plant mix with insect-friendly flowering plants.
The working group
The whole thing was set in motion by the Stadtgrün Freising working group, to which Bettina Köhne and Andrea Merzoug belong.
They approached the Freisinger Stadtwerke with the idea of green waiting halls.
She is very pleased that this project is now being implemented - and on such a large scale.
It is a beginning from which more could emerge.
The public utilities, which are also committed to sustainable management in other areas, are happy to cooperate further, it said at the meeting.
