China has renewed its rejection of the West's attempts to manipulate the issue of studying the origins of the Corona virus under the name of an "open and transparent scientific study".

In response to a joint statement issued by the European Union, the United States, Australia and Japan "on the second phase of the study of the origins of Covid-19", the Xinhua news agency quoted a spokesman for the Chinese mission to the European Union as saying that the politicization of the study of origins seriously impeded international cooperation on this important issue, creating difficulties and impeding efforts countries in the fight against the epidemic.

The spokesman stressed that China has always taken a serious and responsible scientific and professional attitude in tracing the origins of the virus, and twice invited WHO experts to China to trace the origins.

Nearly 60 countries recently wrote to the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stressing that the study of origins is a scientific issue and must be conducted by scientists around the world, calling at the same time to “stick” to the report of the joint study between WHO and China.

"These objective and rational voices should be respected and appreciated," the Chinese spokesman said, calling on relevant parties to stop politicizing this issue and using it to scapegoat others, shirk responsibility, and also stop deliberately obstructing international cooperation on global asset tracing efforts.

"They should adopt a truly responsible and scientific attitude and work with the international community to make due contributions to defeat the virus and protect people's health and well-being," the spokesman added.
