Pag - Numerous visitors were infected with the corona virus at a beach festival in Croatia.

215 corona infections were registered among those returning to Austria.

The event “Austria goes Zrce” took place last week on the island of Pag.

According to the organizer Martin Reitstätter, around 8,000 people, all between the ages of 19 and 27, had traveled to the festival.

They celebrated there for several days at the beach party.

After many of the return travelers tested positive, the Austrian health authorities now asked visitors to get tested in order to track down further possible infections.

According to the organizer, the controls at the party site were carried out properly.

All party guests were therefore checked twice before entering the premises to see whether they had been vaccinated, tested or recovered from Corona-19.

"We followed the guidelines of the Austrian and Croatian governments," he said.

Reitstätter also rejected allegations by a visitor who reported in an interview with the newspaper “Der Standard” about sometimes lax controls.

About 60 percent of the party guests in Croatia were at least partially vaccinated according to a survey carried out by the organizers.

"What frightens us most of all: That there are so many vaccinated people among those who tested positive," stated Reitstätter.

Currently, around a third of new infections in Austria can be traced back to trips abroad, according to Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein.

The seven-day incidence last rose to 32.
