Counterfeiting: 16 million euros of goods seized at the Franco-Spanish border

After a two-year operation, the Spanish authorities seized more than 60,000 items of clothing between Perthus (Pyrénées-Orientales) and Jonquera.

On Wednesday July 21, during a "

police operation

", the forces of the Spanish Guardia Civil found more than 60,100 counterfeit products from Portugal and China, the market value of which is estimated at 16,491,341 million d 'euros.

A seizure that concludes a vast investigation started in 2019.

The first phase of the

had already led to the seizure of 30,791 of counterfeit products, a net worth of more than 7 million euros. This time around, the loot is even more important: Among the objects discovered are thousands of shoes, clothing and some 212 kilograms of metallic logos of well-known brands. Spanish authorities identified five warehouses, six stores and two homes in which hundreds of boxes were stored. According to the Guardia Civil, nearly 200 security agents had to intervene for the seizure and secure the premises.

This second phase of Operation

led to the arrest of eight people involved in trafficking or money laundering, while 33 individuals are under investigation, indicates the communication from the Spanish authorities.

Part of the operation took place in La Jonquera (Spain) and Els Limit, near the town of Le Perthus, straddling the Franco-Spanish border.
