About 3,000 people received the third dose of the corona virus at the HMOs today (Friday), before the official start date of the third vaccination campaign, which will officially begin on Sunday.

At the box office, preparations began for the vaccination of those aged 60 and over with the additional injection, after Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced yesterday the start of the operation for citizens of the relevant age.

This is despite the fact that the regulatory bodies around the world have not yet approved the move, which is nevertheless supported by medical experts in Israel and around the world.

The Maccabi HMO reported that ten thousand appointments had already been called for those aged 60 and over.

"Maccabi calls on all those aged 60 and over who received the second dose of the vaccine five months or more ago, to make an appointment and get vaccinated in a third dose at one of the clinics around the country," the fund said.

The fund said that during the day, about 1,100 people were vaccinated.

Maccabi has more than 300,000 members in the relevant age group.

The appointments can be scheduled in the app, on the Maccabi website and at the call center.

The Clalit HMO reported that 1,300 citizens aged 60 and over had already arrived at the HMO's vaccination complexes today and received the additional shot.

Another 7,000 patients made an appointment for the third dose in the coming days.

Acting CEO of Clalit, Eli Cohen, said that he was "happy to see the responsiveness and willingness of Clalit patients to be vaccinated in the third dose.

They are full of gratitude and appreciation for our teams and share with us their feelings and that they see the vaccine as an effective means that provides them with protection against the virus and also allows them to continue to lead a routine of life. "

Earlier today, President Yitzhak Herzog was vaccinated for the third time at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer.

He was followed by opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu and also received the additional dose. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett accompanied President Herzog, whose wife Michal was vaccinated at the same time. The director general of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Nachman Ash, was vaccinated after the president.

"I'm excited. First vaccine, second vaccine or third vaccine - get vaccinated," he said.
