A 13-year-old cyclist from Charente-Maritime was fatally struck Thursday evening in Carnac (Morbihan) by an alcoholic motorist, the gendarmerie told AFP this Friday, July 30.

The mother of the teenager, 38, who also traveled by bicycle, was seriously injured in the accident and taken to hospital, according to the same source, confirming information from the local press.

The accident took place around 10:25 p.m. on a departmental road, near the famous megalithic alignments of Carnac. The driver, who had a positive blood alcohol level, was taken into police custody.
