Emmering

- Robert K., snow-white shirt, shaved bald, well-groomed beard, tells the presiding judge in detail and in a friendly manner about the love-hate relationship with his older brother Karlo. Again and again, the 33-year-old had ticked off, screamed, rioted and hit Robert with a stick. Still: “We were brothers. We laughed, we were there for each other. ”That is why Robert K. moved back to Karlo in his parents' apartment after his father's death. A mistake, as it turned out in retrospect: Because last year in autumn, the love-hate relationship ended fatally.

On the night of October 7th to 8th, the 30-year-old supermarket employee from Emmering (Fürstenfeldbruck district) slaughtered his brother with 13 machete stabs and blows.

Since then he has been in custody in Stadelheim.

His trial began on Thursday in the Munich II district court, where the public prosecutor's office charged him with manslaughter.

"A switch flipped" at the brother

It was the defendant's 30th birthday.

There was no celebration.

Instead, the brothers of Croatian origin worked in the supermarket until late at night.

However, a lot of alcoholic drinks flowed there.

Otherwise it was "a completely normal day like any other," says Robert K. again and again.

The mood only changed on the way home. As so often before, the brother “flipped a switch”. He freaked out, got upset about everything and shouted around. At home he had become even more rabid: "He threatened that he would chop off my head." Then he went into his room and thought: "Shit, shit, what do I do now?" He decided to go back in to go into the house and calm Karlo down. “I went out. The thing already flew towards me. ”The“ thing ”was a black machete. Karlo K. wielded a second, silver machete. “He reached out and took a step towards me,” says Robert K. “I saw no other way.” The 30-year-old stabbed. He can allegedly no longer remember the further course of the crime.

"I should have stopped after the first stitch."

Forensics revealed that the defendant had repeatedly stabbed the older brother.

13 stitches tore his heart and lungs apart, the 33-year-old had no chance of survival.

He couldn't believe what happened himself, said K. at the hearing.

“I should have stopped after the first stab.” In response to the forensic psychologist's inquiries, he admits that a lot of anger had built up against the brother before.

Karlo K. was "very difficult" and was admitted to psychiatry several times. He has consumed alcohol, marijuana and occasionally cocaine. “He could have done something instead of using drugs and sleeping all day,” says his brother. “For example, taking care of the sick father or collecting the rubbish in the apartment.” After the father's death, everything got worse. Robert K. hoped to be able to help his brother when he moved in with him. The process continues.
