The Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (30th) announced the last month’s food safety report. The results showed that out of about 5,600 food samples that had been tested, all of them passed the test except for the 11 samples announced earlier. The overall pass rate was 99.8%.

The unqualified samples included a sample of clams, a sample of clams and a sample of chaise mussels containing the veterinary drug "chloramphenicol". There were also a sample of frozen cheese and a sample of soft ice cream that had excessive coliforms.

A spokesperson for the Center for Food Safety said that the center conducts microbiological tests on about 1,300 food samples and about 4,300 samples for chemical and radiation levels.

The test samples include about 2,200 samples of vegetables, fruits and their products; about 400 samples of cereals and cereal products; about 500 samples of meat, poultry and their products; about 900 samples of milk, milk products and frozen desserts; about 700 Samples of aquatic products and their products; and about 900 samples of other types of food, including beverages, baked goods and snacks.

The 11 unqualified samples were a clam sample, a clam sample, and a chaise clam sample containing the veterinary drug "chloramphenicol"; a sample of prepackaged candied dates and a sample of prepackaged dried shiitake mushrooms that violated the food labeling regulations; sulfur dioxide exceeded the standard A sample of dried raisins; a sample of frozen cheese and a sample of soft ice cream with excessive coliform bacteria; a sample of cut chicken rice with excessive coagulase-positive staphylococci; a sample of honey containing antibiotics; and a sample of pesticide residues exceeding the standard Samples of bananas.

The center has already followed up the unqualified samples, including notifying the involved merchants about the test results, instructing the merchants to stop selling the problematic food, and tracing the source of the problematic food.

The spokesman reminded the industry to ensure that the food it provides is suitable for human consumption and meets legal requirements. Consumers should patronize reliable shops and maintain a balanced diet to reduce risks.

French duck liver "Rougie" may contain glass shards. The Center for Food Safety calls for the cessation of consumption of pre-packaged raw fish from local retailers. Malachite green is detected. The Center for Food Safety instructs to remove the shelves and recall the Consumer Council. 8 of the samples are being followed up in the Kowloon City market. The carp samples contain trace amounts of malachite green. The Food Safety Center requests to stop sales and trace the source of Japanese nuclear waste water. The Center for Food Safety tested 38,000 batches of Japanese imported food last year and were all qualified
