The intersection of Schöngeisingerstrasse and Hauptstrasse in Fürstenfeldbruck is a central traffic junction.

Not just for the city but for the entire district.

Due to work on the water pipes, the intersection must now be closed for at least a week.

Fürstenfeldbruck

- The consequences for car traffic are likely to be massive. The traffic that normally crosses the city via the B 2 is largely diverted around the construction site (see box). However, the city does not want to record figures on the changed traffic flows - these would be of particular interest on the subject of “traffic calming in the inner city”. “There is no monitoring during the work. The effort and benefit for this are disproportionate, ”said press spokeswoman Susanna Reichlmaier. “The shifting effects of traffic measures can be simulated more easily and better using the traffic model.” In addition, traffic counts had already been carried out when the Amperbrücke was closed.

The work on the water pipes under Kirchstrasse and thus also in the intersection area is part of routine maintenance, as Stadtwerke spokeswoman Monika Lidmila explains.

The pipes date from the 1950s and now need to be replaced.

The old pipes with a diameter of around eight centimeters are replaced by gray cast iron pipes with a diameter of 15 centimeters.

At the same time, the house connections will also be renewed.

The pipes in the houses and the water meters are not affected by the renovation work.

“These stay as they are,” explains Lidmila.

The cost is around 150,000 euros.

Imponderables

The construction work follows a strict schedule.

After a week, the worst should be done.

In Kirchstrasse itself, the restrictions will remain in place until mid-October.

But there are also imponderables that can mess up the schedule.

“Kirchstrasse is a narrow street.

Various branches (gas, sewage, electricity, old water pipes) are laid in this.

As a result, there may be unpredictable problems due to lack of space, ”explains Monika Lidmila.

The diversion

Traffic from Augsburg in the direction of Munich is routed via Marthabräustraße, Puchermühlstraße, Schöngeisinger Straße, Fürstenfelder Straße and Oskar-von-Miller-Straße. In the opposite direction, drivers are led via Oskar-von-Miller-Straße, Fürstenfelder Straße and the Buchenau junction. The diversions are signposted. The northern main street can only be reached by residents and delivery traffic via Pucher Straße.
