Expensive cheap solution: Miesbach's museum depot should cost one million euros

Since the museum will not be realized until further notice, at least the depot in the fire station should be modernized and properly equipped.

But that too has its price.

The project is expected to cost almost one million euros - and raises old fundamental questions.

Miesbach

- Even the cheap solution is still pretty expensive. After the museum, which has been planned for years in the monastery, had to give way to childcare, not least for financial reasons (we reported), the existing depot on the second floor of the fire station is now to be upgraded - as a minimum replacement, so to speak. Showrooms are no longer possible there due to the cramped location, but at least the exhibits should be properly stored and protected. How this should work was presented by the Munich architecture firm Thilo Oerter / Sissi Katikaridis to the city council on Thursday evening.

The concept envisages dividing the rectangular area into five consecutive strips: from the north, after the staircase, there is one for large parts and a climate-stable room for problematic exhibits such as prints.

Then there is an area for pictures and furniture, one with a sliding cabinet system for clothes, vases and sculptures as well as drawer cabinets for the graphic collection and metal parts, whereby there is also a safety room for particularly valuable items.

The former apartment with its own staircase and toilet is to be used as a workshop, activity room and tea kitchen.

Sobering costs

All in all, the costs for this are 984,000 euros.

However, the concept can be divided into three construction phases: depot and quarantine with 500,000 euros, office and workshop with 165,000 euros and the addition of a freight elevator on the outer north side with 300,000 euros.

"No more lip service"

While Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller (CSU) pointed out that the city was responsible for ensuring that “treasures from the past are not damaged”, Paul Fertl (SPD) made it clear: “One million is a no-go.” The fire station is never been more than a makeshift, because it misses the goal of a museum.

"The exhibits must be made accessible to the public."

Looking for alternative locations

For Braunmiller, who also wants the planning office to check other locations and had asked the parliamentary groups to submit proposals by September, Fertl had one ready: the Waitzinger Keller cultural center.

There the pieces could be stored and exhibited.

Another option is the Gersthaus, which would become vacant in the course of the replacement building of the district office - an opportunity for the city, which should seek dialogue with the district.

Waitzinger Keller put to the test

Markus Seemüller (FWG) agreed with Fertl: "Showing and depositing in a building is unbeatable." He would therefore like an open-ended examination of the Waitzinger cellar with the involvement of the museum association. Manfred Burger (Greens), on the other hand, said that a depot was more important than a museum, even though everything in one house would be cheaper. In addition, the association should also be allowed to contribute with suggestions. Erhard Pohl (CSU) also saw the obligation to preserve and present these “unbelievable treasures”. A depot alone is not a big hit - but you should stick with it.

After Pohl had proposed an additional resolution that the mayor should also inquire about presentation options, Fertl asked the basic question: “Do we want a museum?” That should be clarified together with the depot.

Seemüller, on the other hand, rejected a fundamental question through the back door - "just asking about presentation options is okay".

In the vote, the alternative

location test was accepted by a majority, as was Pohl's amendment.
