The tremor was recorded at 12:10 p.m. and its epicenter is located 12 kilometers west of the town of Sullana, not far from the border with Ecuador, at a depth of 36 km, according to the National Institute of Geophysics.

Some 187 homes and at least four temples were damaged by the earthquake, according to Civil Security.
The facade of the cathedral in the city of Piura, built in 1588 and declared a historic monument, has been slightly damaged, Andina said.
Pedro Castillo, who took office as president on Wednesday, traveled with his prime minister Guido Bellido to the area to mobilize aid to the two most affected towns, Sullana and Piura.

The direction of hydrography and navigation of the Navy ruled out any risk of tsunami.
