The suffering is great in icking: The rainwater no longer flows off properly.

The most recent weather events have clearly shown this.

Icking

- Street drainage is one of the big issues in the small community of Icking.

As everywhere around Munich, where there has been a lot of construction, areas where water could previously seep away have been sealed.

The heavy rain events in the past few days and weeks have increased the explosiveness of the whole thing.

In the municipal council meeting on Monday evening, it was also discussed how urgently a “master plan” is needed to improve the situation.

Mayor Verena Reithmann (UBI) emphasized again that the matter had to be approached from two sides: On the one hand, one had to ensure that the excess rainwater could be discharged into the Isar, and on the other hand, remedial action was also available up in the village itself create. “There is an urgent need for action,” she said. And: "We should spin the web from two sides."

This summer was and is quite a nightmare for the idyllic community on the left bank of the Isar. It rains all the time, and when it rains it usually rains too much. Real masses of water then collect at some points in the hilly place, then often rush down small private access roads, flood larger streets, flood cellars and gardens, and finally also rooms in the primary school, including the abandoned library, which will be converted from the next school year for lunch care . According to the mayor, the “hotspots” of the action were, on the one hand, Ulrichstrasse, especially at its lowest point, but also below the maize field, which cannot absorb the rain, as well as the Fuchsbichl / Ichoring area above the school and the Zeller Weg at the confluence with Schatzlfeld.

On the other hand, Icking cannot endlessly pump money into a new drainage system.

"We cannot implement an all-round package for 40 million euros," said Reithmann the day after the meeting.

She announced to the local council that she will meet soon with the Weilheim water management office to discuss the two-pronged approach to solving the problem.

It is clear that catch basins are also needed in Icking itself, as well as more gullies.

In addition, not every street has a “system that drains water”.

The municipality is currently investigating exactly what the sewer system actually looks like, where it should be expanded and where there are weak points.

The topic was not discussed controversially at the meeting. All groups agree that something has to be done. Vigdis Nipperdey (Ickinger Initiative) said: "My feeling is that the municipality does not check the drainage intensively enough for new buildings." Another problem is the question of who is actually responsible. "The demarcation makes difficulties," reported the mayor. It is legally unclear who has to take remedial action when real torrents pour over a corn field onto the next street. In addition - this was also mentioned - there are homeowners in Icking who simply let the rain gutter on their roof run out on the street - instead of worrying about a drainage facility. It is also unclear to what extent owners have to pay when new sewers are built. However, according to Reithmann after the meeting: "There will be very few areas in which the residents are liable to pay contributions."
