Orphaned shopping malls, closed shops and stalls.

Sydney is in lockdown for at least four more weeks.

With 239 cases of corona infection, the state of New South Wales, in which Sydney is located, recorded a high at the beginning of the week - although the lockdown has been in place since the end of June.

Many people are now worn out.

“It's going to be really difficult for us, day in, day out, day in and day out, to keep the business going, to pay the family maintenance and all the bills.

That gets us down, you really can't explain that to anyone who hasn't experienced it themselves.

It seems that only the strongest survive, and we try, we do our best. "

“Luckily I'm still working, but there are a lot of people out there who have lost their jobs but who have houses and other things to pay off.

And then just say: 'You know what, let's extend this a month' - the number of cases will keep going up and down.

But there must be other ways, there have to be other ways. "

Australia has followed a strict line since the beginning of the pandemic with the aim of reducing new infections to zero as possible.

The vaccination campaign, however, was neglected.

Only 17 percent of Australians are immunized.

That is now taking revenge.

Psychologists give tips in the media on how to deal with the measures:

Betty Chetcuti, psychologist

“When we are locked down or there are restrictions, we have no choice or control - but both are very important.

That is why we need a new structure.

The most important thing is to have contact with other people - but safe contact.

For example, when you go for a walk, say hello to strangers.

That might sound strange at first because we don't normally do that.

But under these circumstances it is important that we keep in touch with other people. "

While the Australians have so far accepted the government's measures relatively unsympathetically, that now appears to be changing. The police counted 300 fines for violations on Thursday alone. That's why the army is now supposed to support the police on patrols in the city.
