With zest for action and passion: For over half a century, Elisabeth Winhard has made sure that the local newspaper is punctually in the mailbox in the morning.

Bad Tölz - Elisabeth Winhard only drinks the first cup of coffee of the day after work. After all, the day of the 76-year-olds starts early. “The alarm goes off at half past three. I don't have much time there. Wash, get dressed and I'm on my way, ”she says. "People want to be able to read their newspaper at breakfast." And so that the daily reading material is on the table in Bad Tölz on time, Winhard fills the mailboxes with the Tölzer * edition of our newspaper as early as dawn.

"Every job has its oh and buts - but I like to get up early and you experience a lot when you deliver the newspaper," says Winhard. She knows what she is talking about, after all, this year she is celebrating her anniversary after 50 years as a delivery person. Winhard has therefore been a familiar face on Tölzer Strasse since 1971. The butchers and bakers greet them every day, after all, it's always the same people who meet in the early hours of the morning. "Even those who only started their way home at this time of day will meet you there," says Winhard and laughs. She has often been mistaken for a taxi driver. "But I can't drive everyone home while the others wait for their newspaper."

The Tölzerin delivers around 70 copies every day.

Her "area", as she says, is to the right of the Isar and currently runs from Buchsteinweg to Blombergstrasse.

With age, however, Winhard has shrunk her area.

It used to deliver 250 newspapers.

“I often drove in the direction of Atzbach or Eichmühle.

That was a long way, ”says Winhard.

Delivering newspapers by bike for 15 years - even in ice and snow

The Tölzerin made deliveries by bike for almost 15 years - even in rain, wind and snow. She didn't get her driver's license until she was forty. This is the only way for the 76-year-old to pursue her part-time job and hobby to this day. “I have rheumatism and two artificial knee joints,” says Winhard. “Nevertheless: Getting up and driving out keep me fit and I can improve my pension.” At 9 p.m. I go to bed, so that Winhard gets up early even on the “free Sunday”. When she's otherwise done with work, the whole day still lies ahead of her. As a housewife and mother, that used to be important to her.

With her daughter Manuela, Winhard gave birth to a child with a disability in 1969. Then she and her husband Erwin had three sons. “I took care of the children and the house, while my husband worked as a plumber and a furniture maker,” she says. As long as he was still there in the morning, she could deliver newspapers. After that, she got breakfast and the children ready for school. You should have a carefree childhood. Something that Winhard himself didn't have.

A few days after the end of the war, Elisabeth Winhard was born in Hausham (Miesbach district) in 1945.

Her father was a miner.

Her mother took care of her and her three brothers.

Their lives were simple and they didn't have a lot of money.

“When I was twelve, my mother died.

So my father sent me to Bad Tölz - there were many farms, inns and spa guests there, ”says Winhard.

“With her death, my childhood was over.

I left elementary school to earn money. "

Winhard has learned to tackle things from childhood

So Winhard learned to tackle from childhood.

With the extra income as a delivery person, she could always dress her children nicely, she says.

The only luxury she allowed herself was to go to the hairdresser.

“I was always around people and that's why I had my hair laid regularly,” she says.

“Elisabeth again!

As if peeled out of the egg! ", People would always call out to their" newspaper wife ".

To this day, there is no idleness and sitting still with Winhard.

She also mobilized her husband in retirement: he is now delivering to his own area with the Tölzer Kurier.

And when the couple has delivered all of the copies, it comes to rest together at the breakfast table.

With the newspaper in hand.

And the first cup of coffee of the day.
