In December 2000, the General Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China lifted the restriction that Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong would alternately host the National Games, and allowed provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities with conditions to apply to host the National Games. The main funding needed is the local government that hosts the National Games. Self-raised, the central government will give a one-off fixed subsidy, and the funds required for the construction of venue facilities are also borne by the local government.

Since the central government relaxed restrictions, the National Games after the 10th National Games will be hosted by Jiangsu Province, Shandong Province, Liaoning Province, Tianjin City and Shaanxi Province in turn.
