The two patients arrived in Hong Kong in the United States and the Netherlands respectively, and had lived in Hong Kong in the past 21 days. Their residences at Block 6 on the South Bank of Hung Hom and the residents of Pan Pui Piao, Sai Ying, are required to undergo mandatory testing. In addition, the restaurants they have visited, Hair salons are subject to mandatory inspections, including Quarry Bay Nha Trang Vietnamese cuisine, Central Tai Kwun Le Cha Xuan, and Central Lan Kwai Fong Indian cuisine bar Chaiwala.

According to data, the two initially confirmed patients had both received two doses of Fubital vaccine. They had had an antibody test before leaving Hong Kong and were positive at the time.

Two patients arrived in Hong Kong from the United States and the Netherlands respectively

The Food and Health Service pointed out that two preliminary confirmed cases were found in which the patients had arrived in Hong Kong from the United States and the Netherlands in the past 21 days, involving variant strains of L452R or N501Y.

According to the Department of Health, the first case was a 55-year-old male patient living in Block 6, South Bank of Hung Hom Waterfront.

He left Hong Kong for Spain on July 11 and tested negative before leaving Hong Kong on July 10.

He returned to Hong Kong by flight KL819 on July 31, and the sample taken at the airport on the same day was positive with the L452R mutant virus strain.

He received two injections of Fubital vaccine in Hong Kong on March 20 and April 10, and had an antibody test in Hong Kong on July 5 and was positive at that time.

As for the second case, it involved a 36-year-old female patient who lived in Pan Biao, Xiying, and left Hong Kong for the United States on July 16.

She tested negative before departing from Hong Kong on July 14 and returned to Hong Kong on flight CX883 on August 1. The sample taken at the airport on the same day was positive and contained the N501Y mutant virus strain.

She received two doses of Fubitai vaccine on March 21 and April 12, and tested positive for antibodies in Hong Kong on July 12.

According to the department, since the two patients spent most of the time during the incubation period, they were most likely to have recently contracted locally. Therefore, they were listed as the initial confirmed imported cases.
