Garmisch-Partenkirchen - The next federal election is around two months - and the campaign machines are running at full speed.
Prominent support from party headquarters is part of the repertoire of political competition.
The FDP welcomed its top candidate yesterday in Garmisch-Partenkirchen: Federal Chairman Christian Lindner, who sought contact with the grassroots on the town hall square.
The FDP boss had probably wished for better weather for his “summer tour” appearance in Werdenfelser Land.
But despite the drizzle, around 200 visitors came to see the front man of the Liberals, who is aiming for government participation with his party.
Lindner - his previous speakers were the two members of the Bundestag Katja Hessel (Nuremberg) and Lukas Köhler (Munich) as well as the Bundestag candidate Martin Sielmann (Garmisch-Partenkirchen) - focused on the current number one topic: the Corona crisis. It was a dangerous pandemic, the party leader made clear, and vaccination is the best protection. But: “There must be no new lockdown in autumn.” Otherwise, the social and economic damage would no longer be responsible. It is no longer the time for “general restrictions on freedom”.
In general, Lindner broke a lance for civil rights - the core brand of the FDP. And he called for tax relief and a strengthening of the economy. Only in this way can ecological and social goals - including the well-known positions of the Free Democrats - be implemented.
