Peter Plachik and Oren Samadja after the judo team won a bronze medal in Tokyo (Yaniv Tuchman)

Uri Sasson arrived in Tokyo with a bronze Mario medal. Sagi Muki landed in the Japanese capital two years after being world champion here. Peter Placzyk went to this Olympics knowing that he had to make a podium here in order to win the moment of glory that would make him one of the greatest judo players in Israel. After being a partner yesterday (Saturday) in the historic medal in the group competition, Plachik has already established himself as one of the greatest Jews known to the State of Israel. This morning he is already on one list with the best.

It was hard to see Placzyk from the sidelines last Thursday, when he finished his day of battles without the medal. He went out to the media outside Nippon Budokan and went through all the cameras, giving each channel the attention, despite the personal depression and pain he was experiencing. He cried a lot in his room in the Olympic Village.

"Those were the hardest two days of my life," he told Walla!

Sports after his and his teammates achievement yesterday.

"I filled a few buckets with crying in the room. Between the day of my individual competition and the group competition, I went through terrible 48 hours. I walked around feeling terribly missed after my day of battles and just had a hard time lifting myself up. "This dismissal and returning to Israel without a medal was difficult for me."

How did you make the change? How did you lift yourself in the end?

"I got up in the morning, got in the shower and looked at myself in the mirror. I said, 'Peter, this is a big day where the whole team can do something tremendous. Your friends need you and you're going to do fights for a medal. You don' t let yourself sink anymore. That's it. ' "For a moment I knew I was picking myself up and putting aside the disappointment of the personal competition. I knew I was going to the hall to be with my wonderful friends to do a great thing."

And you did.

"Listen, it's very sweet. This is the first time there is such a competition. You saw how important it was for all the teams here. You saw how everyone wanted it and being on the podium together with France, Japan and Germany is a huge achievement for Israeli judo."

Peter, you have been through a very complex life.

You never knew your father who died, you immigrated to Israel as a baby and your mother had to leave the United States for a certain period to make a living, when you lived with your grandparents in Rishon Lezion.

This medal must surely be much more significant to you.

"My mother is my most revered figure in the world. She is my inspiration for everything. She did everything for me and my sister to have everything children need. Thanks to her I am here today with a medal. I received values for excellence at home. "Great in this medal and last of course is my wife to whom I dedicate this medal. How much she supports me and how much she is with me and do not know if I could have gone through this journey without her."

"You saw how important it was to all the teams here."

The judo team will take off tonight from Tokyo and land in Israel tomorrow morning.

President Yitzhak Bozi Herzog has already greeted the judokas and coaches and is waiting for them at the President's House.

Association Chairman Moshe Ponti will distribute to the athletes and coaches who made the achievement a financial grant on behalf of the association that will join the amount of enjoyment they will receive from the Olympic Committee.
