In statements to a SANA reporter, the mayor of Morek, Abdel Nasser Alloush, said that although the production of pistachios for this season is less than that of the last season, its prices are good and represent a rewarding compensation for farmers and producers, as the price of one kilogram in the market currently ranges between 7000 and 7500 Syrian pounds, depending on the quality and quality of the crop.

He pointed out that the Morek market for Aleppo pistachios, which is about 30 km from the city of Hama on the Hama-Aleppo highway, is witnessing a heavy traffic these days in terms of the influx of cars loaded with pistachios, which indicates that the market has regained its health and its usual activity before the terrorist war on Syria, indicating that hundreds of people enter the market daily. Tons of pistachios being shipped to various provinces.

Hasan al-Qasim, a pistachio farmer in Morek, stated that the pistachio picking operations started a few days ago and early production is witnessing a wide demand by the owners of workshops and factories manufacturing sweets and ice cream, while the production is allocated after 15 days for storage as supplies and also for export abroad after it becomes ripe, pointing out that one of the most famous varieties Halabi pistachios in the Al-Ashuri, Abu Riha and Nab Al-Jamal regions.

Bassam Alloush, a farmer of Halabi pistachios, pointed out that the local pistachio varieties are characterized by a pleasant flavor and high nutritional value, calling for finding ways to increase production per unit area by helping farmers to apply modern farming methods in the areas of irrigation and pest control, organizing the process of distributing fertilizers to farmers and granting them the necessary licenses To drill wells that serve several fields simultaneously.

Abdel Moneim Ibrahim, Head of Morek Extension, said that the town of Morek is one of the most prominent producing areas for pistachio nuts, not only in Hama governorate, but also at the level of Syria.

He pointed out that the pistachio trees in the town have been subjected to great damage during the past years as a result of terrorist attacks and insect and disease pests that have swept the trees, but in recent years they have gradually begun to recover in light of the return to safety, care and education by farmers.

The head of the Mork Extension added that pistachio trees have been planted in the region since 1926, and the tree's load reaches 150 kg. The tree begins production at the age of "8 years and economic production at the age of 12 years, and its production continues for nearly fifty years. It is characterized by the phenomenon of flotation, that is, production for a year and stopping for a year." After that, the pistachio tree does not need fertile soil and is one of the perennial trees.

The head of the Guidance Unit indicated that the pistachio has many types, which are the red ashouri, the white ashouri, the Alimi, the rifle, the jaleb, the syphilis, the camel's canine and the Abu Rayha, indicating that this tree is exposed to several diseases according to weather conditions, and the most important of these diseases is fungal spot and infection of the "Zayat".

The engineer Jihad Al-Mohammed, director of the Halabi pistachio office in the Ministry of Agriculture, said that Syria produces more than 20 types of pistachios. Varieties of 5%, which include Al-Ajami, Camel's Nab, Red Jallab, Al-Bandeeqi, Al-Alimi Al-Abyad, Ain Al-Tineh, Al-Marawahi, Lazurde, Al-Bayadi, Abu Rayha and others.

And he indicated that Syria's production of pistachio fruits for this season is estimated at about 45 thousand tons, with the governorate of Hama accounting for the largest share, with a quantity of 25 thousand tons. In Idlib Governorate, 10476 hectares.
