Good news for families in need: The children's leisure bonus is coming.

August also brings some innovations for crime fans and hobby gardeners.

Berlin - From the changed copyright law to the changed television program: An overview of the most important innovations in August.

CHILD LEISURE BONUS

From August, families with low incomes will receive an extra one-off payment of 100 euros per child.

The bonus can be used for vacation, sports and leisure activities.

Underage children and young people from families who are dependent on Hartz IV or housing benefit, for example, receive the money.

The so-called leisure bonus is part of the “Corona catch-up program” with which the federal and state governments want to mitigate the long-term consequences of the long restrictions in education and leisure for children and young people.

NEW RTL NEWS "RTL DIREKT"

The private broadcaster RTL is attacking the “Tagesthemen” with a new 20-minute news program at 10.15 p.m. and has it presented by long-time ARD face Jan Hofer and, from autumn, alternating from ARD poaching Pinar Atalay.

The "RTL Direkt" format with studio guests and a team of reporters is due to start on August 16 and run Monday to Thursday.

GLYPHOSATE PARTIALLY PROHIBITED

Private users will soon no longer be allowed to use the controversial weed killer glyphosate in their own gardens.

The active ingredient may then no longer be used on playgrounds and sports fields or in parks.

According to the ministry, funds with final approval are excluded.

This change is expected to take effect in the next few weeks.

Use before harvest and in water protection areas is then also prohibited.

Glyphosate is therefore only allowed in exceptional cases on arable land and grassland.

A total national ban is not possible under European law, because glyphosate is still approved throughout the EU until the end of 2022, and glyphosate-containing pesticides with a transitional period are accordingly approved throughout the EU until December 31, 2023.

This is what European law prescribes.

THE POLIT TALKS ARE COMING AGAIN

In keeping with the hot phase of the election campaign, the Polit-Talks are returning from the summer break.

Sandra Maischberger will be back on August 4th, Frank Plasberg (“tough but fair”) on August 23rd, Maybrit Illner on August 26th and Anne Will on August 29th.

At Markus Lanz on ZDF, the summer break is very short this time: His break begins on August 5th, and he will be back on August 24th.

SCHOOL YEAR START

“Back to the classes” is now the order of the day for the pupils in Germany.

The boys and girls in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein will be the first to return from August 2nd.

COPYRIGHT

From August 1st, new rules for handling copyrighted works will apply on online platforms.

Germany is thus implementing an EU directive from 2019 that has been hotly debated.

A key point is that platform operators can be held liable if users upload copyrighted works such as images, texts or videos without permission.

Platforms can take precautions through license agreements and at the same time have to block content in some cases.

Uploading small sections is still allowed.

THE "TATORT" RETURNS

On August 29th, the first broadcasts the first new “Tatort” after a week-long summer break - it starts with a case by the Frankfurt investigators: “Anyone who hesitates is dead”.
