Yerevan-Sana
Armenian President Armen Sarkissian has appointed the leader of the "Civil Contract" party, Nikol Pashinyan, as prime minister.
According to the Russia Today website, this decision came after Nazini Baghdasaryan, a member of Armenia's parliament from the "Civil Contract" party announced earlier today that the party had proposed to the country's president assigning Pashinyan to form a government.
According to Armenia's constitution, the country's president shall immediately designate the candidate nominated by the parliamentary majority as prime minister after the newly elected National Assembly begins functioning.
The constitution also stipulates that in the event of exceptional elections, the authority of Parliament officially begins from the moment it opens its first session.
The government itself is formed within fifteen days of the appointment of the Prime Minister, after which the Head of Government must submit the Cabinet's work program to the National Assembly within 20 days.
Pashinyan had submitted his resignation from his position as prime minister on the 25th of last April in order to hold early parliamentary elections in the country.
