One can argue about taste.

And that is what the Rottach municipal councils did again when it came to designing the entrance banners.

But the basic draft is in place.

Rottach-Egern

- the two constructions that carry the town entrance banners of the municipality of Rottach-Egern at the Seeforum and the Weißach are 18 years old. The changing advertising banners of the community are fixed in the frames with elastic cords. a construction that has its weaknesses and no longer looks up-to-date - there is agreement on this in the local council. The future design and size, however, was still a struggle. The first draft, which the building yard manager Tobias Maurer had worked out together with a local expert for advertising and advertising space, also met with criticism.

In order to improve visibility, Maurer wanted at least to increase the frame at the Seeforum from 5.30 to 5.50 meters. In addition, it should also be possible to continue to use the banners below, which refer to events by associations, without restriction. "It is important to come up with a new system that is storm-proof for the banners and safe for the building yard employee who changes the banners," stated Maurer. Up to now, two building yard employees had to move out to replace them, one of whom had to climb a ladder, thread the banners and fix them in place.

In the future, the banners should be slid into piping rails at the top and bottom and then be able to be turned down by one person with a winch in the aluminum frame. If Maurer has his way, this frame should be faced with larch wood, with which the indirect, energy-saving LED lighting can also be integrated. Whether a “crown” made of wood should be added to the whole thing, as is done in the neighboring community of Kreuth, remains to be decided.

The costs for both panels would amount to around 14,000 euros, with the offers for the material being six to nine months old. And the seasonally changing banners that put Rottach-Egern in the limelight as a summer or winter destination would also have to be new and made to match the new fastening system. A digital display is ruled out because the road authorities see it as a potential accident hazard.

Mayor Christian Köck (CSU) agreed to the larch wood facing in a somewhat slimmer form. Stability and indirect lighting were important to him. Herman Ulbricht (FWG) criticized the size. Gabriele Schultes Jaskolla (FWG) and Anastasia Stadler (CSU) both wanted it to be light, beautiful and illuminable. One could imagine the wooden cladding, the other would prefer a pure metal construction. Stadler wanted to make sure that all banners to be installed - whether from the art and culture association or the Borussia Mönchengladbach training camp - are always discussed with the town hall or with the management of the tourist information office. This was assured by managing director Gerhard Hofmann, who, however, was grateful, that some local associations had taken over the exchange of the banners themselves and thereby relieved the building yard.

Franz-Josef Maier (CSU) would have liked to see the entrance banners merged with the welcome boards into one board, which Köck refused due to lack of space and traffic safety. Josef Kaiser (independent) questioned the “giant panels with the giant 'rags'” in general: “Do we even need that? We just pave the place up with these 'rags'. ”For cost reasons, a foil and, for cost reasons, a support structure made of wood would be enough for him; he didn't believe in a combination with aluminum. Gabriele Schultes-Jaskolla pointed out that Rottach-Egern is a tourist destination and that it makes sense to refer to the offers.

Mayor Köck thought that was not only sensible, but important.

This is common practice in many places: "To deny that is old-fashioned." Therefore, he demanded that the yard manager Maurer should pursue the idea with the aforementioned advertising company - with the stipulation that the construction was "stable and functional, but light " should be.

The committee finally agreed with one vote against.
