Cycling: men pursuit qualifications, Italy 2 / a

At the Tokyo Olympics, the track cycling program began. Italy finished second in the qualifications of the men's team pursuit test, behind only Denmark who set the new Olympic record: tomorrow in one of the four heats they will challenge New Zealand.


The Azzurri - Simone Consonni, Filippo Ganna, Francesco Lamon, Jonathan Milan - finished the test on the four kilometers in 3'45 "895, a new Italian record and a new Olympic record up to the test of the Danes. In case of victory against New Zealand , the Italians will qualify for the final for first place, but in case of defeat, to access the bronze final, they will have to record one of the two best times among the six teams out of the final.

Italy, on the other hand, finished in fourth place the qualifications of the women's team pursuit test: tomorrow in one of the four heats they will challenge Germany who set the best time, in 4'07''307, a new world record. The blues - Rachele Barbieri, Letizia Paternoster, Elisa Balsamo and Vittoria Guazzini - finished the test on the four kilometers in 4'11 "666 (new Italian record) and are therefore still in contention for gold. In case of victory against Germany, the Italians will qualify for the final for the first place.In the event of defeat, however, to access the bronze final, they will have to record one of the two best times among the six teams out of the final.


In provisional second place there is Great Britain, in third the USA: these two teams will compete for the other place in the final. From fifth to eighth place France, New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
